Article Abstract

In recent years, the bacterium has been spreading in almond orchards (causing almond leaf scorch) and in grapevines (causing Pierce's disease) in northern Israel. Sucking insects specialized for xylem sap-feeding transmit this plant pathogen, but the identity of the vector(s) in Israel has not been determined. Hence, we sought to determine the main potential vector(s) of in Israel. In our surveys in northern Israel, we collected and identified four species of spittlebugs: , , , and . The first two species were found in very low numbers. was found only in spring and did not transmit in controlled experiments. was the most abundant and widely distributed species in our survey and was found in and around infected vineyards in northern Israel. In controlled experiments, we found that 35 to 39% of adults acquire from infected vines and almonds and subsequently transmit it to vines and almonds. Taken together, this study suggests that is an important new vector of in almond orchards and vineyards in northern Israel. Further studies are needed on ' biology, ecology, and role as a vector of .

Objectives: Individuals with dementia often experience stigmatisation and social exclusion. To develop dementia-friendly communities, it is important to take a life-course approach to enhance the perception of dementia in the general population. Currently, we lack an overall understanding of adolescent perceptions of dementia.

Background: The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is undergoing demographic shifts potentially increasing metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its complications. We assessed MASLD prevalence and liver disease burden from 2010 to 2021.

Methods: Data from Global Burden of Disease (GBD), United Nations Population Division and NCD Risk Factor Collaboration covering 21 MENA countries were used for annual percent change (APC) trends per Joinpoint regression.

Hypertensive acute heart failure (HT-AHF) has historically been recognized as a distinct clinical phenotype of AHF, characterized by acute pulmonary congestion in the context of elevated systolic blood pressure (SBP), typically > 140 mmHg. However, emerging evidence has begun to challenge the diagnostic accuracy, clinical utility, and relevance of this category. A main criticism of HT-AHF is its considerable overlap with other AHF clinical profiles, including acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) and acute pulmonary oedema (APO).

Atrial fibrillation is a common cardiac arrhythmia that significantly increases the risk of morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients. This study aimed to investigate the associations between glycemic control indicators-hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), hemoglobin glycation index (HGI), stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR), and glycemic variability (GV)-and clinical outcomes in AF patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU). We conducted a retrospective analysis utilizing data from the Critical Care Medicine Information Marketplace (MIMIC)-IV database and a cohort from Binhai County People's Hospital, comprising patients with AF.
