Article Abstract

The strong coupling of epsilon-near-zero materials with nanoantennas has demonstrated enhanced nonlinear optical responses, yet practical challenges persist. Here, we propose an alternative: an ultrathin metasurface featuring broadband response with a weakly dispersive nonlinear index, achieved through a simple implementation. Our metasurface, comprising a disordered gold nanorod array on indium tin oxide, exhibits polarization-independent behavior and a large average nonlinear refractive index of 5 cm/GW across a broad wavelength range (1000-1300 nm). Enhanced performance is attributed to the weak coupling between gold nanorods and indium tin oxide, offering a cost-effective method for nonlinear optical metasurfaces and a flexible design in nanophotonic applications.

A novel gourd-type photoacoustic cell (GTPAC) has been developed, featuring a highly reflective, polished gold film-coated inner wall that minimizes optical loss and maximizes light utilization efficiency. GTPAC integrates two coupled spherical chambers with a radius ratio 2:3, which is close to the golden ratio. Its unique Gaussian curvature distribution enables multi-directional, disordered light beam reflection without complex optical alignment.

Gold nanocrystals have been widely used in sensing and medicine, where nanocrystal shape can profoundly influence properties. To describe and predict the structure and properties of Au nanomaterials, first-principles studies are the most accurate. Force fields can provide effective surrogates for first-principles calculations, and in the case of Au, many such force fields exist.

Wrist-worn photoplethysmography (PPG) enables scalable, long-term unobtrusive sleep monitoring through the expression of sympathetic and parasympathetic activity in heart rate variability. However, interindividual differences in the sympatho-vagal balance may inherently limited general PPG-based sleep staging models. This study investigates whether learning individual autonomic representations through model personalization can improve PPG based automated sleep staging performance.

DNA-directed "bonding" of nanoparticle "atoms" has led to highly ordered 3D superlattices of nanomaterial units with programmable crystalline orders. However, it remains a great challenge for the system to avoid being trapped in disordered metastable states toward long-range-ordered nanoparticle arrays. In this work, we present a pH-responsive, enthalpy-mediated strategy to address this dilemma by incorporating a CG-C triplex DNA structure into a strand-displacement circuit that programs the catalytic assembly of DNA-grafted gold nanoparticles.
