Medicated bath is the most common spiking method used in the development of matrix reference materials for aquatic products; however, the environmental issues caused by the treatment of waste liquid after medicated bath cannot be ignored. We proposed an environmentally friendly spiking method based on microfluidics, which significantly improved the drug utilization rate without the need for subsequent drug residue treatment. Finely processed minced fish samples were fully mixed with quinolone drugs, and minced fish gel microspheres were prepared by microfluidic technology, utilizing the gel's water-locking function to enhance the drug-loading capacity. The results showed that this method can significantly increase the drug-loading capacity of the matrix (2.33-4.03 times) compared with the traditional spiking methods. In addition, the matrix reference material prepared by this method has good stability, and the drug concentration was adjustable and controllable.

Turmeric-derived curcumin offers various health benefits but has poor bioavailability due to low water solubility and rapid gastrointestinal degradation. A recently proposed raw-to-nano strategy enables the direct formulation of turmeric nanoparticles from raw turmeric, using inherent biopolymers to encapsulate and protect curcumin. However, it remains unclear how these nanoparticles enhance gastrointestinal bioavailability and how food matrices influence this process.

Background: Atherosclerosis (AS) is a leading risk factor for cardiovascular diseases globally, characterised by the accumulation of lipids and cholesterol in arterial walls, causing vascular narrowing and sclerosis along with chronic inflammation; this leads to increased risk of heart disease and stroke, significantly impacting patients' health. A prototype bioactive calcium phosphate model-specifically hydroxyapatite (HA) derived from eggshells-was developed using a sodium silicate (NaSiO) solution as an inorganic binder, precursor, and reinforcing agent, in combination with collagen nanofibers for bone engineering applications. The sodium silicate solution, functioning as a waterglass adhesive, introduced cohesive forces within the hydroxyapatite matrix, thereby enhancing its physical, chemical, and mechanical properties. Eggshell-derived bioactive hydroxyapatite offers several advantages, including non-toxicity, biocompatibility, collagen adhesion, and the ability to mimic bone structure, making it suitable for tissue engineering.

Research on multimorbidity patterns promotes our understanding of the common pathological mechanisms that underlie co-occurring diseases. Here, we present a protocol to infer multimorbidity clusters in the form of disease topics from large-scale diagnosis data using treeLFA, a topic model based on the Bayesian binary non-negative matrix factorization. We describe steps for installing software, preparing input data, and training the model.
