UCP2 mediates mitochondrial dynamics to induce AgRP neuronal activity.

Objectives: The hypothalamic agouti-related protein (AgRP)- expressing neurons regulate feeding and whole-body energy homeostasis. A growing body of evidence indicates that changes in mitochondrial dynamics, such as fission and fusion, play a crucial role in regulating AgRP neuronal activity. However, the mechanisms underlying this process remain to be elucidated.

Liver fibrosis is a severe liver disease directly linked to chronic inflammation, in which hepatic macrophages play a key role. Growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR) is the receptor of nutrient-sensing hormone ghrelin that has essential functions in metabolism, inflammation, and wound-healing. However, the role of GHSR in liver fibrosis is unknown.

Lipid sensing in the hypothalamus contributes to the control of feeding and whole-body metabolism. However, the mechanism responsible for this nutrient-sensing process is ill-defined. Here, we show that Nogo-A, encoded by reticulon 4 (Rtn4) gene and associated with brain development and synaptic plasticity, regulates feeding and energy metabolism by controlling lipid metabolism in Agouti-related protein (AgRP) neurons.

Altered circadian pattern of activity in a chronic activity-based anorexia nervosa-like female mouse model deficient for GHSR.

Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is a psychiatric disorder characterized by voluntary food restriction, resulting in severe undernutrition that has been associated with circadian rhythms alterations. Yet, mechanisms that link circadian rhythm shifts to abnormal eating regulation in AN are poorly understood. Plasma ghrelin concentrations, an orexigenic hormone secreted by the stomach and acting through the GHSR (Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor), is elevated in restrictive-type AN.

High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is a commonly used sweetener in soft drinks and processed foods, and HFCS exacerbates inflammation when consumed in excess. Fructose, a primary component of HFCS; however, it is unclear whether fructose directly activates inflammatory signaling. Growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR) is a receptor of the nutrient-sensing hormone ghrelin.
