is a ubiquitous saprophyte found in air, soil, and organic matter. Humans inhale the spore form of the fungus, but manifestations of the disease are typically predominantly seen in immunocompromised patients. Invasive central nervous system (CNS) aspergillosis is even more uncommon, and epidemiological data is sparse, particularly in immunocompetent patients. We report the case of a 67-year-old previously immunocompetent female with no known comorbidities who was treated with corticosteroids for COVID-19 one month prior to admission for altered mental status (AMS). Subsequent imaging and biopsy demonstrated invasive CNS . Though a rare cause of AMS in immunocompetent patients, this report draws attention to the detrimental immunosuppressive effects of corticosteroid therapy in COVID-19.

Introduction: The aim of this article is to compare the long-term efficacy of Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair (TEVAR) versus Optimal Medical Therapy (OMT) in reducing mortality among adult patients with uncomplicated Stanford type B aortic dissection (uSTBAD).
Methods: An electronic search of PubMed, Cochrane Central and Google Scholar was conducted for studies comparing TEVAR with OMT for mortality in adult patients with uSTBAD. Relevant outcomes, including mortality, aortic rupture, re-intervention, retrograde type A dissection, myocardial infarction and stroke were analyzed and presented as risk ratios (RRs) along with their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI).

Perineural invasion (PNI) is a common pathological characteristic of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), closely linked to postoperative recurrence, metastasis, and unfavorable prognosis. Nevertheless, the precise mechanisms that govern PNI in PDAC remain poorly elucidated. Here, group-specific component protein (GC) is identified as one of the most significantly upregulated genes related to PNI, primarily derived from malignant ductal cells compared to other cell types.

Sonocatalytic therapy (SCT) is a non-invasive tumor treatment modality that utilizes ultrasound (US)- activated sonocatalysts to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), whose production critically dependent on the electronic structural properties of the catalytic sites. However, the spin state, which is a pivotal descriptor of electronic properties, remains underappreciated in SCT. Herein, a Ti-doped zirconium-based MOF (Ti-UiO-66, denoted as UTN) with ligand-deficient defects is constructed for SCT, revealing the important role of the electronic spin state in modulating intrinsic catalytic activity.

Background: Though rare, sphenoid sinusitis can cause abducens nerve palsy because of the anatomical proximity of the sphenoid sinus and the abducens nerve.
Case Presentation: A male patient in his late seventies presented with double vision and left abducens nerve palsy. Imaging revealed sinus opacifications later identified as due to Scedosporium apiospermum, a rare fungal pathogen.
