A novel type of chemosensor based on tin(IV) complexes incorporating hydroxyquinoline derivatives has been designed and investigated for selectively detecting fluoride ions. Sn(meq)Cl (meq = 2-methyl-8-quinolinol) (complex 1) exhibits a significant enhancement in luminescence upon the introduction of fluoride ions. This enhancement greatly surpasses that observed with SnqCl and Sn(dmqo)Cl (q = 8-hydroxyquinnoline; dmqo = 5,7-dimethyl-8-quinolinol). Furthermore, complex 1 displays excellent sensitivity and selectivity for fluoride detection in comparison to halides and other anions. As a result, complex 1 serves as an outstanding turn-on fluorescent chemosensor, effectively sensing fluoride ions. The Benesi-Hilderbrand method and Job's plot confirmed that complex 1 associates with F in a 1 : 2 binding stoichiometry. Also, complex 1 exhibited a large binding constant (p = 10.4 M) and a low detection limit (100 nM). To gain a deeper insight into the photophysical properties and the underlying mechanism governing the formation of the tin(IV) fluoride complex halide exchange, we successfully synthesized partially fluorinated Sn(meq)FCl (2) and fully fluorinated Sn(meq)F (3), all of which were characterized through computational studies, thereby elucidating their photophysical properties. DFT studies reveal that converting Sn(meq)Cl to Sn(meq)F, an endergonic process, leads to greater stability due to reducing steric hindrance about the metal center. Furthermore, the fluorinated complex significantly increases dipole moment, resulting in high affinity toward the F ion.

Cyclopropane is a significant alicyclic motif, widely utilized in medicinal chemistry, while fluorination serves as a powerful tool to modulate properties that enhance the performance of pharmaceuticals and materials. This quantum-chemical study explores the energetic implications of fluorinating cyclopropane, providing insights into molecular characteristics arising from the polar C-F bond. Isodesmic reactions revealed that the conversion of cyclopropane and methyl fluoride into mono-, di-, tri-, tetra-, penta-, and hexafluorinated cyclopropanes is exothermic, except for the all--1,2,3-trifluorocyclopropane ().

Cemented paste backfill has made outstanding contributions to the large-scale consumption of phosphogypsum (PG), but poor water resistance significantly weakens the mechanical strength, promotes the leaching of total soluble phosphate (TP) and fluoride ions (F), and reduces its attractiveness in mine engineering. This research synthesized a curing agent (CA) using sodium methylsilicate, sodium silicate, and polyaluminum chloride (PAC). PG produced from Deyang Haohua Qingping Phosphate Mine Co.

A novel electrocatalyst, zirconium ferrite nanoparticles (NPs) (ZrFeO NPs), was synthesized through coprecipitation and calcination processes at 300 °C and 500 °C using iron rust. The ZrFeO NPs were used as catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction. Furthermore, these NPs in an alkaline medium exhibited superior properties of a fractional order supercapacitor, based on which a prototype device was fabricated to demonstrate its energy storage applications.

Silica polymorphs and zeolites are fundamental to a wide range of mineralogical and industrial applications owing to their diverse structural characteristics and thermodynamic and mechanical stability under varying conditions. Computational modelling has played a crucial role in understanding the relationship between the structure and functionality of silicas and silicates, including zeolites. In this study, we apply the MACE machine learnt interatomic potentials (MACE MP) to model the framework energies of siliceous zeolites and examine the phase transitions of silica and silicalite polymorphs under high-pressure conditions.
