Article Abstract

Primrose syndrome (PS) is a rare genetic disease characterized by developmental delay, intellectual disability, sensorineural hearing loss, and dysmorphic features. PS is caused by de novo pathogenic variants in the ZBTB20 gene, which encodes a transcription factor modulating neurogenesis. We describe resolution with sertraline of neurobehavioral difficulties in a 17-year-old Hispanic male with PS with de novo heterozygous c.1916G > A (p.C639Y) variant of ZBTB20. Neurobehavioral difficulties included aggression towards self and others, irritability, tearfulness, and mood liability that did not respond to behavioral interventions or aripiprazole. Treatment with sertraline, a medication indicated for psychiatric disorders including anxiety and depression, led to the resolution of neurobehavioral difficulties after 2 weeks of initiation of medication. The treatment course suggests that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, such as sertraline, may be a useful tool for neurobehavioral difficulties in PS over antipsychotics that are accompanied by complex side effect profiles, and suggest that anxiety is the primary cause of the neurobehavioral difficulties in this patient.

Background: Caregivers of children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) often face significant psychological and social challenges. This study aimed to assess the extent of psychological distress, quality of life (QOL), coping strategies and associated risk factors among caregivers and to evaluate whether these issues intensify with advanced stages of CKD.

Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted at a tertiary care centre in North India, enrolling 50 consecutive caregivers of children with CKD between July 2020 and June 2021.

School of Health and Wellbeing, University of Glasgow, Clarice Pears Building, 90 Byres Road, Glasgow, G12 8TB, UK.

Dravet syndrome is a severe developmental and epileptic encephalopathy characterized by drug-resistant seizures and multiple nonseizure comorbidities. While disease management has mainly focused on seizure control, there is growing recognition of the importance of nonseizure outcomes in treatment evaluation. This review examines evidence for treatment effects on key nonseizure domains including cognitive functioning, adaptive behavior, speech and language, neurobehavior, sleep, motor outcomes, orthopedic sequelae, nutrition/growth, and quality of life.

Objective: Between May 2021 and January 2022, the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 40: Society for Clinical Neuropsychology's (SCN) Strategic Planning Committee conducted multiple methods of data collection to inform the development of an organizational strategic plan.

Methods: Professional consultants conducted semi-structured interviews with members of the SCN Executive Committee (EC) and targeted focus groups in May and June 2021. SCN members and non-member neuropsychology interested parties were surveyed between October 2021 and January 2022 about their perspectives of 1) membership satisfaction, 2) the historical and current strengths and weaknesses of the SCN, 3) equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within the SCN and clinical neuropsychology, 4) current and potential membership benefits, 5) professional challenges and difficulties facing the specialty, and 6) areas that the SCN should prioritize when investing its resources.

Background: Anxiety is a common yet often underdiagnosed and undertreated comorbidity in multiple sclerosis (MS). While altered fear processing is a hallmark of anxiety in other populations, its neurobehavioral mechanisms in MS remain poorly understood. This study investigates the extent to which neurobehavioral mechanisms of fear generalization contribute to anxiety in MS.
