Background: Acute heart failure (AHF) significantly contributes to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, bearing a substantial socioeconomic burden. While the dynamics of chronic heart failure have been extensively explored in global patient cohorts, comprehensive data specific to AHF remain limited.

Methods: This retrospective, single-center, real-world study comprises hospitalized patients with AHF, admitted to a tertiary care hospital in Vienna, Austria, between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2019.

Aims: The diagnosis of peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is often delayed due to the absence of disease-specific biomarkers. Recently, serum proteins-QSOX1, adiponectin (ADIPOQ) and ITIH3-have shown potential for improving diagnostic accuracy, especially when used with NT-proBNP. However, the influence of ethnicity on their expression remains unclear.

Septic shock is a frequent condition in emergency departments, requiring rapid hemodynamic assessment. Noninvasive cardiac output monitoring (NICOM) offers a convenient method for evaluating these patients. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed 50 septic shock patients (34 males, 16 females) from a cohort of 627 NICOM cases in northern Taiwan emergency department between January 2020 and December 2021.

Background: Heart failure is a burgeoning disease that imposes an enormous social and economic burden globally. It presents a significant public health challenge due to its high morbidity and mortality. In recent years, notable advancements have been made in the pharmacological treatment of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), with guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) emerging as the cornerstone of HFrEF management.

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of adults with acute heart failure in a South African teaching hospital.

ESC Heart Fail

August 2025

Division of Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Aims: In sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), the clinical profile and in-hospital outcomes of adults with acute heart failure (HF) based on left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) categories are unknown. This study aimed to describe the prevalence and clinical characteristics of patients admitted with acute HF based on LVEF categories and their association with in-hospital outcomes.

Methods: Four hundred six consecutive patients with acute HF were enrolled in this prospective study between February and November 2023.
