Language learning and use relies on domain-specific, domain-general cognitive and sensory-motor functions. Using fMRI during story listening and behavioral tests, we investigated brain-behavior associations between linguistic and non-linguistic measures in individuals with varied multilingual experience and reading skills, including typical reading participants (TRs) and dyslexic readers (DRs). Partial Least Square Correlation revealed a main component linking cognitive, linguistic, and phonological measures to amodal/associative brain areas.

The rapid emergence of mineralized structures in diverse animal groups during the late Ediacaran and early Cambrian periods likely resulted from modifications of pre-adapted biomineralization genes inherited from a common ancestor. As the oldest extant phylum with mineralized structures, sponges are key to understanding animal biomineralization. Yet, the biomineralization process in sponges, particularly in forming spicules, is not well understood.

Background: Smartphones, first introduced in 1992 in the United States, have evolved into essential communication tools due to their convenience and increasing functionalities. Their widespread use has significantly impacted daily life, leading to various psychological and physical consequences, particularly among young adults. In France, Interministerial Mission to Combat Drugs and Addictive Behavior (MILDECA) reports a high prevalence of intensive smartphone usage among individuals aged 15-24, with many acknowledging their inability to control their screen time.

Phylogenetic analyses of phenotypic characters in crown-group birds often recover results that are strongly incongruous with the findings of recent phylogenomic analyses. Furthermore, existing morphological datasets for crown birds are frequently limited by restricted taxon or character sampling, inconsistent character construction, incorrect scoring, or a combination of several of these factors. As part of an effort to address these limitations, in this study we focus on identifying phylogenetically informative characters of the avian pectoral girdle and forelimb skeleton, elements of which are commonly preserved as avian fossils.

Hypervirulent (hvKp) and classical multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains belong to distinct lineages and hvKp are typically characterized by hypermucoid capsules that have been shown to limit horizontal gene transfer (HGT), including plasmid acquisition. However, the convergence of hypervirulence and MDR is increasingly common worldwide. When we profiled 127 antibiotic-susceptible hvKp strains, we found that most (86%) are highly permissive to plasmid transfer despite their capsules.
