Introduction: Severe bacterial infections cause significant disease burden in developing countries, including Malawi. The situation is compounded by the scarcity of resources, inconsistent availability of antibiotics, and increasing antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Methodology: This was a descriptive retrospective study where we analyzed blood culture results of pediatric patients admitted to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH), Lilongwe, Malawi.

Background: Surgical site infections (SSIs) are the most common skin and skin structure infections and are mostly polymicrobial, requiring hospitalization and broad-spectrum antibiotics. This clinical trial evaluated the noninferiority of delafloxacin vs best available therapy (BAT) for the treatment of superficial or deep incisional SSI following a cardiothoracic/related leg or abdominal surgical procedure.
Methods: In this randomized, observer-blinded, active-controlled, parallel-group, multicenter, phase IIIb study, patients with SSI were randomized 1:1 to receive delafloxacin 300 mg intravenous (IV)/450 mg oral (OS) or BAT IV/OS (vancomycin or linezolid for cardiothoracic SSI, piperacillin/tazobactam or tigecycline for abdominal SSI).

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major public health challenge, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, where diagnostic and surveillance capacities are limited. Enterobacterales significantly contribute to AMR, with environmental reservoirs facilitating transmission between humans, animals, and the environment.
Methods: This study investigated the prevalence and antimicrobial susceptibility of selected Enterobacterales in human, water, animal feces, and soil samples in Kenya.

: Four of the six ESKAPE pathogens are responsible for a majority of antimicrobial resistance (AMR)-related deaths worldwide. Identifying the pathogens that evade antibiotic treatments more efficiently than others can help diagnose pathogens requiring more attention. The study was thus designed to evaluate the biofilm and resistance properties of five ESKAPE pathogens comparatively.
