Proctitis is an inflammatory condition of the distal rectum that can be associated with common sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis. For persons presenting with ulcerative findings on examination, in addition to syphilis, Mpox, lymphogranuloma venereum, and herpes simplex virus should be in the differential. Providers should also be aware that there are evolving data to support a role for Mycoplasma genitalium in proctitis. Performing a comprehensive history, clinical evaluation including anoscopy, and rectal nucleic amplification STI testing may be useful in identifying the cause of proctitis and targeting treatment.

Background: Modern radiotherapy techniques can destroy tumors with less harm to surrounding normal tissues. Normal Tissue Complication Probability (NTCP) models are useful to evaluate treatment plans.
Objective: This study aimed to use the Quantitative Analysis of Normal Tissue Effects in the Clinic (QUANTEC) program to evaluate dose-volume indicators and radiobiological parameters for complications of the rectum and bladder in prostate cancer patients undergoing pelvic radiotherapy.

Objectives: Pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (PIBD) incidence has increased in recent decades but may be stabilizing, prompting exploration of incidence changes, disease distribution, and severity.
Methods: From 2017 to 2019, patients under 18 years with PIBD symptoms were recruited from nine hospitals in South-Eastern Norway for Inflammatory Bowel Disease in South-Eastern Norway III (IBSEN III), a population-based inception cohort study. The primary outcome was a diagnosis of any PIBD subtype as defined by revised Porto criteria.

Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis is commonly seen in patients who are immunodeficient or have inflammatory bowel disease. Among the gastrointestinal sites affected by CMV, the colon is the most frequently affected, though rectal involvement is relatively rare. Reactivated CMV proctitis primarily occurs in elderly patients with comorbidities and is quite uncommon in immunocompetent individuals.
