Serological clusters in systemic lupus erythematosus and its clinical and prognostic implications: A longitudinal cohort study.

Semin Arthritis Rheum

Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disorder characterized by multi-organ involvement and variable clinical manifestations. Recurrent clinical patterns suggest distinct phenotypes, where cluster analysis of autoantibodies could identify prognostic subtypes.

Objectives: To define and describe serological clusters and their clinical-epidemiological characteristics, as well as their association with comorbidities, disease activity measures, severity, and damage.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disorder characterized primarily by arterial and/or venous thrombosis, obstetric complications and persistent positivity for antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs). It has been proposed that the pathogenesis of APS is closely associated with vascular endothelial cell activation, complement activation and platelet activation. Notably, APS may be key to understanding the relationship between innate immune cells, and thrombosis and obstetric complications.

Objectives: Pulmonary hemorrhage (PH) represents a rare complication in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In this study, we conducted a thorough investigation into the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment modalities, and outcomes of patients with SLE-associated PH at our medical center. Additionally, a comparative analysis of clinical and laboratory parameters before and after rituximab therapy were performed to assess its efficacy in the management of SLE-associated PH.

Background: Preanalytical conditions, particularly centrifugation protocols, are critical for producing high-quality platelet-poor plasma in hemostasis testing. Centrifuge braking is debated due to its potential impact on platelet remixing.

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of centrifuge braking on residual platelet counts and a broad panel of hemostasis assays using both fresh and double-centrifuged plasma.
