Viruses are the leading cause of foodborne illness globally. Concentration of viruses from samples is important for detection because viral contamination of foods often occurs at low levels. In general, virus concentration methods can be classified as either nonspecific, exploiting the relatively homogeneous physicochemical properties of the virus to separate/concentrate it from the sample matrix, or specific, relying on recognition elements such as antibodies to specifically capture and separate viruses from foods. Numerous nonspecific and specific techniques for virus concentration have been reported, each with its own advantages and limitations. Factors to consider can include reagent and equipment costs, time-to-result, ease of use, and potential to eliminate matrix-associated inhibitors. The purpose of this review is to survey the different foodborne virus concentration techniques and their efficacy in various food and environmental matrices as well as discuss some emerging techniques for purification and concentration of viral pathogens from food samples.

Aim To compare the results of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) in patients who recently recovered from COVID-19 with those not previously infected with SARS-CoV-2; to establish prognostic criteria for PCI complications, including stent thrombosis and restenosis (ST and SR) and progression of ischemic heart disease, and to determine ways to prevent them.Material and methods In 2021, middle-aged patients admitted to the Baku Central Clinical Hospital with a diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome who underwent urgent myocardial revascularization using percutaneous balloon angioplasty of the occluded coronary artery (CA) with implantation of a second-generation intracoronary drug-eluting stent were divided into two observation groups: the main group of 123 patients who had COVID-19 in the previous 6 months, and the control group of 112 patients who were not previously infected with SARS-CoV-2. The immediate results of PCI were assessed according to the TIMI scale; complications were assessed both clinically, by the incidence of severe complications (major adverse cardiovascular events, MACE), and angiographically, by the incidence of early and late ST and SR, and de novo stenosis that developed during the two-year observation period.

At the first stage, 878 patients with shortness of breath were screened three or more months after COVID-19, and the presence of at least three diagnostic criteria for CHF, that were not in their history, was verified.

Punicalagin, a polyphenolic compound extracted from pomegranate peel, has received increasing attention in recent years due to its antibacterial and antiviral properties. Punicalagin is capable of inhibiting bacterial growth at sub-inhibitory concentrations by affecting cell membrane formation, disrupting membrane integrity, altering cell permeability, affecting efflux pumps, interfering with quorum sensing and influencing virulence factors. Additionally, punicalagin inhibits viruses by modulating enzyme activity, interacting with viral surface proteins, affecting gene expression, blocking viral attachment, disrupting virus receptor interaction and inhibiting viral replication.

Influenza viruses can be aerosolized when slaughtering infected chickens, which increases the risk of zoonotic transmission. We conducted pilot experiments to measure the concentrations of airborne particles <2.5 μm during slaughtering and defeathering of chickens to help identify methods that can minimize workers' exposure to potentially hazardous aerosol particles.

The precise determination of viral titers in virological studies is a critical step to assess the infectious viral concentration of a sample. Although conventional titration methods, such as endpoint dilution or plaque forming units are the gold standards, their widespread use for screening experiments remains limited due to the time-consuming aspect and resource-intensive requirements. This study introduces a rapid and user-friendly high-throughput screening assay for evaluating viral titers.
