Purpose Of Review: In the context of ongoing decriminalization and legalization of cannabis, a better understanding of how THC and CBD impact anxiety is critical to elucidate the risks of recreational cannabis use as well as to establish the therapeutic potential of cannabis products for anxiety-related applications.
Recent Findings: Recent literature supports anxiogenic effects of THC administration, which may be attenuated among regular cannabis users. Data regarding anxiolytic effects of CBD administration are mixed. Most newer studies contradict earlier findings in reporting no effects of CBD on anxiety in healthy participants, whereas inconsistent results have been reported among individuals with anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, and other clinical populations.
Summary: Future research is needed to reconcile heterogenous findings, explore sex differences in the effects of THC and CBD on anxiety, as well as to assess how effects change with extended exposure, the impact of different CBD doses, and interactions between THC, CBD, and other cannabis compounds.

Objective: The diversity and potency of cannabis products have increased in recent years, underscoring the importance of understanding which products are being used and why. Patients with substance use disorders (SUDs) use have a high prevalence of risky cannabis use, making it especially important to understand use patterns in this group. Background: Australia has one of the highest rates of cannabis use globally, yet the concentration of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) of illicit street cannabis has not been formally assessed in over a decade. The rising legal acceptance of cannabis and the high comorbidity between cannabis use disorder (CUD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) highlight the importance of understanding how stress and cannabis influence the brain. We recently discovered that cannabis use promotes two PTSD-like symptoms: avoidance coping behaviors and the generalization of stress-coping responses to a neutral stimulus not previously linked to stress. To investigate the neuroadaptations behind these changes, we used in vivo zymography and confocal microscopy to examine how stress and cannabinoid use influence multipartite synaptic plasticity in the nucleus accumbens core (NAcore), including astroglial plasticity, Synapsin-I density, and matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2,9) activity.

Cannabis sativa L. (Cannabis) is a medicinal plant that produces and stores an abundance of therapeutic and psychoactive secondary metabolites, including phytocannabinoids and terpenes, in the glandular trichomes of its female flowers. ∆-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆-THC) plays a major role in diving under the influence of drugs investigations and workplace drug testing. Additionally, cannabidiol (CBD), as well as semi-synthetic cannabinoids, like hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) and ∆-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆-THC), are increasingly found on regulated and unregulated drug markets. A straightforward bioanalytical method was developed, covering 14 analytes, including ∆-THC, CBD, ∆-THC, and their respective metabolites, as well as HHC and a subset of minor phytocannabinoids.
