The d-amino acid oxidase (DAAO) from has proven to have great potential for applications due to its excellent catalytic kinetic parameters. However, its poor thermal stability has limited its performance in biocatalysis. Herein, starting from the variant SHVG of DAAO, this study employed a comprehensive computational design approach for protein stability engineering, resulting in positive substitutions at specific sites (A43S, T45M, C234L, E195Y). The generated variant combination, SHVG/SMLY, exhibited a significant synergistic effect, leading to an extension of the half-life and . The ancestral sequence reconstruction revealed the conservation of the variant sites. The association of the variant sites with the highly stable ancestral enzyme was further explored. After determining the contribution of the variant sites to thermal stability, it was applied to other homologous sequences and validated. Molecular dynamics simulations indicated that the increased hydrophobicity of the variant SHVG/SMLY was a key factor for the increased stability, with strengthened intersubunit interactions playing an important role. In addition, the physical properties of the amino acids themselves were identified as crucial factors for thermal stability generality in homologous enzymes, which is important for the rapid acquisition of a series of stable enzymes.

Quasi-one-dimensional magnets can host an ordered longitudinal spin-density wave state (LSDW) in magnetic field at low temperature, when longitudinal correlations are strengthened by Ising anisotropies. In the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet YbAlO_{3} this happens via Ising-like interchain interactions. Here, we report the first experimental observation of magnetization plateaux at 1/5 and 1/3 of the saturation value via thermal transport and magnetostriction measurements in YbAlO_{3}.

Pea shoots (Pisum sativum) are well known to have nutritional benefits when consumed raw; however, the effects of home cooking on their bioactive compounds remain unclear. Therefore, we investigated how different cooking methods affect the antioxidant activity and stability of antioxidants. Our evaluation revealed that antioxidant activity is preserved by steaming but significantly reduced by microwaving and boiling, which also causes weight loss during cooking.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a persistent organic pollutant with toxic effects on human health and ecosystems. In this study, the performance of MWCNT-OH functionalized with iron nanoparticles (MWCNT-OH@Fe) using sugarcane bagasse extract as a reducing agent (green synthesis) was evaluated for BPA adsorption. The kinetics are fast, between 10 and 20 min in the range of concentrations evaluated and the resistance to external film diffusion (external film mass transfer) identified as the rate-limiting step of the process.
