Objective: Although existing evidence suggests a potential link between dementia and adverse outcomes in patients with COVID-19, a definitive relationship is uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of dementia on in-hospital outcomes of patients in the presence of COVID-19.
Methods: The US Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) was searched for patients 65 years or older hospitalised for COVID-19 in 2020.

Introduction/background: Complex articular fractures around the knee in the elderly patient present an ongoing challenge regarding optimal treatment. While extensive research has evaluated immediate arthroplasty following fracture of the proximal femur, distal femur, proximal humerus, and elbow, relatively little focus has been given to immediate arthroplasty following complex tibia plateau fractures.
Methods: As seen with many other fractures, arthroplasty can shorten recovery and hospital stay and allow early weight-bearing with improved mobility while minimizing complications and possible future conversion arthroplasty cost.

Annually, millions of humans and animals suffer from chronic and acute pain, creating welfare and quality of life concerns for both humans and animals who suffer this pain. In developing new therapeutic approaches, the challenge is to accurately measure this pain to ascertain the efficacy of novel therapeutics. Additionally, there is a need to develop new and effective analgesic options that may offer alternatives to using opioids that contribute to the opioid epidemic.

Introduction: Dengue fever, the most prevalent arthropod-borne viral disease, causes ∼400 million infections annually. Although thrombocytopenia is commonly associated with dengue, how it evolves in relation to viral load and immune responses remains poorly understood. This study aimed to elucidate platelet-virus-immune interactions in acute dengue by systematically tracking of viral load, platelet parameters, and leukocyte dynamics.
