Background: Chagas heart disease (ChD) is a significant public health concern in Latin America, contributing to a high incidence of sudden cardiac death (SCD). Despite advances in heart failure treatment, management of Chagas cardiomyopathy has not progressed accordingly. While ICDs are effective for primary and secondary prevention in other conditions, patients with ChD often experience more frequent episodes of ventricular tachycardia, and ICD use may provide a negative impact and increase mortality.

Objectives: Recommendations regarding the use of third-trimester ultrasound lack universal consensus. Yet, there is evidence which supports its value in assessing fetal growth, fetal well-being, and a number of pregnancy-related complications. This literature review evaluates the available scientific evidence regarding its applications, usefulness, and the timing of the third-trimester scan in a low-risk population.

Objective: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) leads to high rates of knee post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). Physical activity may mitigate PTOA risk but levels after ACLR have not been extensively studied. We aimed to review self-reported and device-measured physical activity levels in individuals with ACLR and compare them with international guidelines, and with uninjured controls.

Liraglutide is a key therapeutic agent in managing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), with benefits extending beyond glycemic control to address cardiovascular and renal comorbidities. As T2DM prevalence rises globally, the need for medications that provide comprehensive health benefits becomes increasingly important. Liraglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, has demonstrated effectiveness in reducing cardiovascular events, especially among patients with high cardiovascular risk, such as those with a prior history of myocardial infarction or stroke.

Nuclear mitochondrial DNA segments (NUMTs), which are mitochondrial DNA fragments integrated into the nuclear genome, serve as markers of evolutionary history. This study aims to enhance the detection and analysis of NUMTs by developing a script named NUMTsearcher. Utilizing the latest chromosome-level genome assemblies from various species, including human, rabbit, and six fish species, the study compares NUMTsearcher's performance against traditional methods such as LAST (Local Alignment Search Tool), BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool), BLAT (BLAST-Like Alignment Tool), and the pan-mitogenome approach, which integrates mitogenomes from diverse sources to identify fixed NUMTs in the nuclear genome.
