Article Abstract

Selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH (NH-SCR) for diesel emission control at low temperatures is still a great challenge due to the limit of the urea injection threshold and inferior SCR activity of state-of-the-art catalyst systems below 200 °C. Fabricating bifunctional catalysts with both low temperature NO adsorption-storage capacity and medium-high temperature NO reduction activity is an effective strategy to solve the issues mentioned above but is rarely investigated. Herein, the WO/CeZrO (W/CZ) catalyst containing the CeZrO pyrochlore structure was successfully developed by a simple H reduction method, not only showing superior NO adsorption-storage ability below 180 °C but also exhibiting excellent NH-SCR activity above 180 °C. The presence of the pyrochlore structure effectively increased the oxygen vacancies on the CeZrO-containing W/CZ catalyst with enhanced redox property, which significantly promoted the NO adsorption-storage as active nitrate species below 180 °C. Upon NH introduction above 180 °C, the CeZrO-containing W/CZ catalyst showed greatly improved NO reduction performance, suggesting that the pyrochlore structure played a vital role in improving the NO adsorption-selective catalytic reduction (AdSCR) performance. This work provides a new perspective for designing bifunctional CeZrO-based catalysts to efficiently control the NO emissions from diesel engines during the cold-start process.

Lithium Slag as a Supplementary Cementitious Material for Sustainable Concrete: A Review.

Materials (Basel)

August 2025

Mineral Recovery Research Centre (MRRC), School of Engineering, Edith Cowan University, Joondalup, WA 6027, Australia.

The global cement industry remains a significant contributor to carbon dioxide (CO) emissions, prompting substantial research efforts toward sustainable construction materials. Lithium slag (LS), a by-product of lithium extraction, has attracted attention as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM). This review synthesizes experimental findings on LS replacement levels, fresh-state behavior, mechanical performance (compressive, tensile, and flexural strengths), time-dependent deformation (shrinkage and creep), and durability (sulfate, acid, abrasion, and thermal) of LS-modified concretes.

Monozygotic twins (MZTs) share nearly identical genomic DNA sequences, making traditional forensic short tandem repeats (STR) genotyping methods ineffective for distinguishing between them. In recent years, the use of epigenetic factors in forensic applications has gained traction. The dynamic epigenetic factors can be influenced by inherited traits or acquired environmental factors.

In this work, cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were obtained from the wood of L. Willd (Huizache) via acid hydrolysis; then, they were used to reinforce polyacrylic acid-co-acrylamide (AAc/AAm) hydrogels synthesized in a solution process via in situ free radical photopolymerization. The nanomaterials were characterized using atomic force microscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and the residual charge on the CNCs; the nanohydrogels were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, swelling kinetics, and Young's modulus.
