Cr-doped inorganic materials are pivotal in developing near-infrared optical materials; however, multivalent Cr ions and their respective distribution in the materials remain ambiguous. Herein, a series of Li(ScIn)O:Cr phosphors containing both Cr/Cr ions are prepared. High-resolution synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD) reveals two similar phases in Li(ScIn)O. Raman spectra further confirm distinct scattering patterns for the two end-member compositions, corroborating the findings from the synchrotron XRD analysis. Cr -edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure and extended X-ray absorption fine structure demonstrate that most Cr ions in the as-prepared samples are Cr, while Cr becomes dominant after washing with water. Moreover, the source and distribution of Cr and Cr ions in the as-prepared and washed samples are revealed through X-ray fluorescence and X-ray excited optical luminescence techniques, which indicate that Cr ions aggregate within the sample, while Cr ions are evenly distributed. Photoluminescence, decay curves, and line shape analyses are implemented to resolve the electron-lattice interactions, and the corresponding mechanisms are provided to explain the asymmetry between photoluminescence and photoluminescence excitation spectra. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the distribution of low-concentration multivalence ions in solid-state materials and offers a deeper understanding of the approaches to precisely resolve the subtle changes in the crystal structure.

Coordination polymers (CPs) are versatile materials formed by metal ions and organic ligands, offering a broad range of structural and functional possibilities. Phosphonates and phosphinates are particularly attractive ligands for CPs due to their multiple binding sites, varied coordination geometries, and ability to form robust network structures. Phosphonates, considered harder ligands, form strong bonds with hard metals such as Fe, while phosphinates offer additional versatility due to the varied pendant groups on phosphorus.

Cyclopropane is a significant alicyclic motif, widely utilized in medicinal chemistry, while fluorination serves as a powerful tool to modulate properties that enhance the performance of pharmaceuticals and materials. This quantum-chemical study explores the energetic implications of fluorinating cyclopropane, providing insights into molecular characteristics arising from the polar C-F bond. Isodesmic reactions revealed that the conversion of cyclopropane and methyl fluoride into mono-, di-, tri-, tetra-, penta-, and hexafluorinated cyclopropanes is exothermic, except for the all--1,2,3-trifluorocyclopropane ().

In the cardiovascular system, elastic fibres exert a fundamental role providing the long-range elasticity required for physiological functions. Elastic fibres are complex in composition and structure containing, in addition to elastin, a wide range of matrix components, such as microfibrillar proteins, calcium-binding proteins and glycosaminoglycans. Changes in composition and/or structure can affect the biomechanics of the tissue as well as the intrinsic affinity of elastin for Ca ions.
