The likelihood ratio (LR) is a recommended metric for assessing the strength of genetic information in relationship testing, one of the most important tasks in forensic science. LR calculation incorporate population frequencies, which is affected by population substructure. This study utilized population frequency data from 18 short tandem repeat (STR) loci across 13 Chinese populations, encompassing both majority and minority ethnic groups.

Tandem repetition is one of the major processes underlying genome evolution and phenotypic diversification. While newly formed tandem repeats are often easy to identify, it is more challenging to detect repeat copies as they diverge over evolutionary timescales. Existing programs for finding tandem repeats return markedly different results, and it is unclear which predictions are more correct and how much room remains for improvement.

Previous studies have suggested potential associations between some dietary factors and oral mucosal lesions (OMLs), however, existing research could be biased due to limited sample size and unaccounted confounding factors. This study aimed to explore the causal relationships between 13 common dietary factors and 3 OMLs using 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Data for the MR analysis were extracted from publicly available genome-wide association study statistics.
