Article Abstract

Quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) and molecular dynamics (MD) methods were applied to systematically investigate the temperature-dependent phosphorescence emission of dibenzo[,]thiophen-2-yl(4-chlorophenyl)methanone (ClBDBT) and its derivatives. The calculated temperature-dependent spectra on the lowest triplet state (T) are in good agreement with the experimental observations, which means that the two-component white light emission should stem from the T state. The further MD simulations demonstrate the existence of two mesomerism structures at room temperature which can emit two lights simultaneously. The multi-component light emissions induced by mesomerism structures have advantages in balancing the distribution of excitons which could be beneficial to obtain pure white light along with stable Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) coordinates. We hope this mesomerism concept can be further used to design new white light emitters based on room-temperature phosphorescence.

Hemorrhagic stroke occurs due to a rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. This leads to initial mechanical damage at the site of injury and secondary injuries including axonal degeneration (AxD). Since axons are critical for all brain functions, we systematically reviewed studies that focused on axonal degeneration in two major types of hemorrhagic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage, to understand how and to what extent AxD develops and to interrogate underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets.

Trifluoromethylborylation of Unactivated Alkenes via an Electron Donor-Acceptor (EDA) Complex.

This communication describes a straightforward method for the trifluoromethylborylation of unactivated alkenes. The reaction proceeds through the formation of an electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complex between a trifluoromethylthiophenium salt and bis(catechol)diboron under broad-spectrum white-light irradiation. Due to the mild reaction conditions, the trifluoromethylborylation tolerates a wide range of functional groups, including esters, acids, alcohols, epoxides, and a variety of heterocycles.
