is an emerging opportunistic pathogen in immunocompromised hosts and hospitalized patients. However, the incidence is low in immunocompetent hosts. Because of their characteristic similarities, may be confused with other fungal species, such as , , and even . Recently reported cases of serious infections caused by have proven detrimental, and some cases reported amphotericin resistance. Here, we present a case report of empyema caused by in an immunocompetent patient who was admitted to the intensive care unit and intubated for acute hypoxic respiratory failure. This case demonstrates the importance of recognizing this organism and initiating early treatment for the prevention of fatal complications.

is a commensal bacterium that colonizes the gut of humans and animals and is a major opportunistic pathogen, known for causing multidrug-resistant healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Its ability to thrive in diverse environments and disseminate antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) across ecological niches highlights the importance of understanding its ecological, evolutionary, and epidemiological dynamics. The CRISPR2 locus has been used as a valuable marker for assessing clonality and phylogenetic relationships in .

Background: Invasive aspergillosis (IA) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised individuals, with an expanding spectrum of at-risk populations, particularly in the intensive care settings. Despite advances in antifungal pharmacotherapy, treatment outcomes remain suboptimal, and the rise of antifungal resistance highlights the need for adjunctive therapy that leverage host immune mechanisms. The pathogenesis of IA is primarily driven by impaired or dysregulated immune responses to Aspergillus species, mainly Aspergillus fumigatus.

Ovarian cancer, particularly high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC), remains a leading cause of mortality in gynecologic oncology. Emerging research identifies serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC) as a precursor lesion in many HGSC cases, highlighting its role in ovarian cancer pathogenesis and prevention. Management of STIC is challenging, as there is only limited data available to guide clinical decision-making.

Candida spp. are opportunistic fungi capable of forming biofilms, a key factor contributing to their resistance to conventional antifungals. This highlights the need for novel compounds with distinct mechanisms of action to combat fungal infections.

Introduction: The (KP) species complex (KpSC) comprises KP as the predominant species, and six other taxa including two subspecies each of var (KV) and (KQ), all capable of causing clinical infections and often challenging to differentiate. Among these, KP is by far the most clinically significant, with the emergence of multidrug-resistant and hypervirulent strains leading to severe infections and limited treatment options, underscoring the need to understand the genomic features of KP.
Methods: This study compared globally disseminated KP lineages with less abundant KV strains in synthetic human urine (SHU) across multiple omics levels to identify characteristics differentiating these closely related species.
