This study describes the clinical characteristics and treatment of vertebral infection caused by Coxiella burnetii through a case report and literature review. We present a 60-year-old male with isolated lumbar vertebral infection. A comprehensive literature review identified 17 cases, with 82.

Background: The gut microbiota produces numerous metabolites that can enter the circulation and exert effects outside the gut. Several studies have reported altered gut microbiota composition and circulating metabolites in patients with chronic heart failure (HF) compared to healthy controls. Limited data is available on the interplay between dysbiotic features of the gut microbiota and altered circulating metabolites in HF patients.

The chick embryo ventricular cardiomyocyte model provides students easy access to experiments involving fundamental features of cardiac cell physiology and pharmacology. Using standard physiology teaching laboratories and basic cell culture equipment, spontaneously beating colonies of electrically-connected cardiomyocytes can be obtained by the students themselves. Students learn, aseptic techniques and cell culture alongside experiments illustrating, at the simplest level of experimentation, how beating rate can be altered physiologically or pharmacologically.

Echocardiography is the primary imaging tool for evaluating cardiac structure and function in patients with primary hypertension. A significant limitation of the current literature is that most studies focus on older adults, leaving a significant gap in understanding the cardiac effects of primary hypertension in young adults. This scoping review protocol aims to assess conventional echocardiographic parameters, left ventricular geometric patterns, and advanced echocardiographic findings for the early detection of cardiac changes in young adults aged 18-39 with primary hypertension.

Determination of evolutionary mechanisms underlying innovative traits is crucial for understanding the vast diversity of species and phenotypes. Given their respiratory physiologies, fishes are compelling subjects for evolutionary analysis of the hemoprotein-based oxygen-transport systems. Asian noodlefishes (Osmeriformes: Salangidae) and Antarctic icefishes (Notothenioidei: Channichthyidae) are examples of fish clades that generally do not express myoglobin or hemoglobin.
