Background: Arteriovenous fistulas are critical for maintaining effective blood circulation during hemodialysis. Undetected fistula dysfunction can lead to severe complications or death. Existing monitoring approaches rely heavily on hospital-based assessment, creating challenges for early intervention in home care settings.

Plantar wounds, particularly diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), impose significant burdens on patients' quality of life and healthcare systems. Personalized wound management demands real-time monitoring of biomechanical parameters and effective therapeutic interventions to prevent exacerbations. Here, a dual-layer flexible liquid metal fiber (LMF) capable of simultaneous plantar pressure sensing and electrical stimulation for accelerated wound healing is presented.

Enterobius vermicularis infection (enterobiasis) is a common intestinal parasitosis, typically characterized by perianal pruritus, and is most prevalent in children. Diagnosing enterobiasis in cognitively impaired individuals, who may not report typical symptoms, poses a diagnostic challenge. We report the case of an 86-year-old Japanese woman with cognitive impairment who was admitted for a tibial fracture.

Background: Relating the geographical distribution of intermediate freshwater snail hosts (viz. vectors of schistosomes) to local environmental attributes offers value for understanding the epidemiological landscape of schistosomiasis transmission in a changing aquatic environment. Schistosomiasis-both urogenital and intestinal-causes significant human suffering, affecting approximately 240 million people globally and grouped within the neglected tropical disease (NTD) umbrella.

People with a previous HIV diagnosis (PWHDx) who are out of care (OOC) (PWHDx OOC) represent a significant but often overlooked population in the United States, accounting for nearly half of new HIV transmissions annually. Emergency departments (EDs), frequently accessed by PWHDx OOC for unscheduled care, are uniquely positioned to identify and re-engage these individuals in HIV care. While ED-based HIV efforts have traditionally focused on diagnosing new infections, this paper reviews and evaluates 3 models EDs can implement to identify PWHDx OOC: routine HIV screening, health information exchange, and electronic health record alerts.
