Background: Recently, a simple scoring system named the Mansoura scoring system was developed to predict spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) in patients with cirrhosis and ascites. However, the efficacy of this newly developed system has not been extensively investigated. We aimed to validate a new simple scoring system for the rapid diagnosis or exclusion of SBP without paracentesis.
Methods: Adult patients with cirrhosis and ascites admitted to Cho Ray Hospital between November 2021 and May 2022 were included. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) curve of the Mansoura simple scoring system for predicting SBP was calculated using the Stata software. Other independent laboratory tests for predicting SBP (C-reactive protein [CRP], neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], and mean platelet volume [MPV]) were assessed and compared using the Mansoura scoring system.
Results: A total of 121 patients were included in this study. The Mansoura scoring system showed good performance in predicting SBP in patients with cirrhosis and ascites (AUROC:0.89). At the cut-off ≥ 4 points, the scoring system achieved a specificity of 97.7% with a positive predictive value for the diagnosis of SBP of 93.5%. Multivariate analysis was performed using our data and showed that NLR, CRP level, and MPV were independent factors related to SBP.
Conclusion: The Mansoura scoring system demonstrated good performance in predicting SBP in patients with cirrhosis and ascites and may help guide management decisions.

Background: Survivors of critical illness frequently face physical, cognitive and psychological impairments after intensive care. Sensorimotor impairments potentially have a negative impact on participation. However, comprehensive understanding of sensorimotor recovery and participation in survivors of critical illness is limited.

Background: Current scoring systems for hypertriglyceridaemia-induced acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) severity are few and lack reliability. The present work focused on screening predicting factors for HTG-SAP, then constructing and validating the visualization model of HTG-AP severity by combining relevant metabolic indexes.
Methods: Between January 2020 and December 2024, retrospective clinical information for HTG-AP inpatients from Weifang People's Hospital was examined.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance and liver fat accumulation. However, the specific mediating role of liver-related metabolic indicators in this association has not been fully studied. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Metabolic Score for Insulin Resistance (METS-IR) and OSA, focusing on the mediating effects of liver fat percentage (PLF) and hepatic steatosis index (HSI).

Background: protamine sulfate is used to reduce bleeding risk after Carotid Artery Stenting (CAS), but its efficacy in personalized patient settings remains underexplored. This study aims to identify factors associated with greater benefits from protamine sulfate following CAS.
Methods: A retrospective review of Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) data (2016-2022) identified patients undergoing CAS, divided into Transfemoral CAS (TF-CAS) and Transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR) groups.

Balance is a critical component of daily activities and overall quality of life. This study aims to develop a cost-effective exercise system for the rehabilitation of balance disorders by combining a sensor module with target-oriented video games. The system, designed using a microcontroller-controlled sensor module and Unity game engine, features a game component that provides visual feedback and is synchronized with the platform movements.
