Article Abstract

Unlabelled: Currently, the market offers a wide variety of suture threads, made of materials with different structural and chemical properties. Among many other characteristics, they vary in origin, absorption or degradation, and structure. From this variety, the clinical doubt arises as to which material provides the patient with the best healing quality.

Objective: This study aims to comparatively evaluate two different types of suture threads-Monocryl (polyglycaprone 25) and Ethilon (nylon)-regarding their ability to aid in tissue regeneration by a histological and immunohistochemical analysis of the skin of rats sutured with the aforementioned materials.

Methods: This basic experimental study used 12 adult Wistar rats, randomly divided into three groups with four animals each and subjected to four longitudinal incisions under anesthesia. Each group corresponded to a postsurgical evaluation date (one, seven, and 14 days).

Results: At 14 postoperative days, the studied groups had no histological difference. However, the use of nylon thread showed greater evidence of earlier fibrotic union.

Conclusion: This study found no histological difference in healing 14 days after surgery among the techniques and the types of suture threads.

Biodegradable magnesium alloys suture anchors face rapid anchor eyelet degradation, compromising mechanical strength. In this study, an assembled-structure magnesium alloy suture anchor was proposed to mitigate the fast failure of anchor eyelet. In vitro and in vivo experiments were conducted to evaluate the degradation behavior and biomechanical performance of assembled ZE21C magnesium alloy suture anchors.

Introduction: Facial thread lifting is currently very popular as a minimally invasive procedure. This retrospective study assesses the clinical efficacy of PLLA/PLGA coned threads used in patients who underwent thread brow lifting.

Materials And Methods: Forty-two patients with mild-to-moderate brow ptosis were treated with PLLA/PLGA coned threads for brow lifting as an outpatient procedure.

Background And Aims: Endoscopic therapies are currently the mainstay of treatment for GI fistulas. However, some GI fistulas are hard to treat as the result of the tissue's friability and large size defect. This case series describes a novel technique for managing hard-to-treat fistulas.

Application of the Knotting After Half-side Threaded Anastomosis Method in Free Anterolateral Thigh Flap Repair.

J Craniofac Surg

Department of Stomatology, The First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui.

Purpose: The anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap serves as a pivotal technique for maxillofacial defect restoration. The prognosis of free flap repair is critically tied to the quality of vascular anastomosis. In this study, we introduced the Knotted After Half-Side Threaded Anastomosis Method (KAHTAM) and conducted a comparative analysis to assess its performance in relation to the conventional Half-Side Intermittent Anastomosis Method (HIAM).

Arthroscopic remplissage repair of the Hill-Sachs defect has been advocated for engaging or off-track presentation in recurrent shoulder instability. The various described techniques use specialized instruments to pass sutures across the tendon or deploy multiple anchors directly through the infraspinatus tendon and capsule to avoid suture-passing instruments. With either of these methods, pitfalls include a larger-than-required rent in the tissue compromising the tendon quality, along with technical challenges of placing the anchors, deltoid entrapment, the need for accessory portals, and the risk of suture off-loading compromising the repair.
