Inhibition of α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) is considered a prospective method for the prevention of type II diabetes. As two flavonoids obtained from fruits, swertisin (SW) and apigenin (AP) have similar structures and display various pharmacological properties. To examine the effects of flavonoid structure on inhibition of AGEs adducts and carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes activity, molecular docking and molecular dynamic simulations (MDs) were used. The molecular docking method was performed by the Autodock program, and the ligand that showed the most negative binding energy was selected for further investigation. SW showed the potential ability to inhibit the AGEs formation and carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes activity. The stability of the receptor/SW complex was evaluated by MDs. Based on the findings of the present study, it was found that SW has the potential to reduce glycation and delay the activity of α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes.

Long-term large-scale application of acetochlor has led to its accumulation in soil, causing serious environmental pollution. In this study, Klebsiella michiganensis ES15 was isolated from the contaminated reactive sludge of an acetochlor pesticide plant and achieved 79.23 % degradation of acetochlor within 4 d after medium optimization using response surface methodology.

Phosphodiesterase 9 (PDE9) is an enzyme that hydrolyzes cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-a second messenger that regulates neuronal plasticity and memory function. PDE9 inhibition has been shown to enhance cognitive function in rodents, underlining the potential of PDE9 inhibitors (PDE9Is) as novel therapeutics for cognitive dysfunction. Considering the critical role of nitric oxide (NO)-cGMP signaling cascade in acetylcholine (ACh) release, the combination of PDE9Is and acetylcholinesterase inhibitors may synergistically elevate ACh levels in the brain.

Abnormal levels of trypsin in the human body can lead to various diseases, yet conventional detection methods often lack operational simplicity and real-time readout capabilities. This work presents a state-of-the-art metal organic framework (MOF) nanozyme-integrated liquid crystal (LC) sensor (MHN-LC sensor) and demonstrates the detection of trypsin as a proof of the concept. By rational engineering of the MOF-808 framework with Al and l-histidine coordination, a novel MOF nanozyme (MHis-NE) exhibiting exceptional acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-mimetic activity is successfully prepared.

Chitinases, enzymes responsible for hydrolyzing chitin, a significant component of fungal cell walls, play a crucial role in plant defense mechanisms, growth, symbiotic relationships, and stress resistance. In this study, we identified 27 chitinase genes in chickpeas (CaChi) and classified them into five classes based on phylogenetic analysis. Overall, chitinase genes are clustered on eight chromosomes.

Glycosidases generally function in specific organelles to hydrolyze glycoconjugates. Thus, the in situ visualization of glycosidase activities in an organelle-targeted manner can help to better delineate their biological functions. Lysosomal β-galactosidase (β-Gal) is reported to be a biomarker for ovarian cancer and cellular senescence.
