Stabilized bismuth oxide material with fluorite structure (δ-BiO) has been studied as a promising electrolyte material for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs) due to its high oxygen ion conductivity in mediate temperature. Especially, the ternary system BiO-ErO-WO is widely concerned for its high ionic conductivity and thermal stability. In this study, regarding its low melting point, the possibility to deposit dense BiO-ErO-WO ((BiO) (ErO) (WO), EWSB) electrolyte by plasma spraying was examined. It was confirmed that the sintered EWSB bulk presents a high ion conductivity of 0.34 S cm at 750 °C and excellent stability that indicates no structure transformation and conductivity degradation after annealing at 600 °C for 1000 h. The phase structure and cross-sectional microstructure of plasma-sprayed EWSB were characterized by XRD and SEM. Results showed that the as-plasma-sprayed EWSB presents a dense microstructure with well bonded lamellae. The XRD showed the formation of EWSB with δ-phase and a trace of β-phase, while the β-phase disappeared after annealing at 750 °C for 10 h. The deposited EWSB electrolyte presented the excellent ionic conductivity of 0.26 S cm at 750 °C which can be directly applied to SOFC at intermediate temperature.

The MAGNUS high-performance MRI gradient platform delivers G = 200-300 mT/m, and SR = 500-750 T/m/s using standard clinical 3.0T system power electronics. This enables the exploration of an expanded diffusion parameter space (b~7-≥30 ms/μm) with reasonable SNR, along with substantially shorter diffusion encoding pulse-widths, echo times, reduced distortion, and blurring from shorter echo spacing.

Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a life-threatening disease characterised by progressive loss of motor neurons with few therapeutic options. The MIROCALS study tested the hypothesis that low-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2) improves survival and function in ALS.
Methods: In this randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, male and female riluzole-naive participants, with either a possible, laboratory-supported probable, probable, or definite ALS diagnosis (revised El Escorial criteria), aged 18-76 years, with symptom duration of 24 months or fewer, and slow vital capacity of 70% or more, underwent a riluzole-only 12-18 week run-in period before randomisation in a 1:1 ratio to either 2 million international units (MIU) IL-2 or placebo by subcutaneous injection daily for 5 days every 28 days over 18 months.

Alkali-activated cement (AAC) is a sustainable building material with low carbon emissions, but it has a growing demand for raw materials. In this study, the potential of low-purity modified calcium bentonite (CB) as a raw material for AAC was evaluated. The thermodynamic changes and pozzolanic properties of calcined CB were determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), zeta potential, and a strength activity index (SAI) test.

Carbapenem-resistant (CRE) have become a growing problem worldwide in recent years. Options for the treatment of CRE are limited and one of these options is gentamicin. For this reason, gentamicin susceptibility should be properly determined.
