Purpose: Anatomical landmarks can provide vital information on the distribution of nerves in the gastrocnemius muscle. We aimed to provide an anatomical perspective on appropriate locations for botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) injections in the medial and lateral parts of the gastrocnemius for calf shaping.
Materials And Methods: A modified Sihler's method was applied to both the medial and lateral parts of the gastrocnemius muscles (16 specimens). Intramuscular neural distributions were revealed by dissecting along a transverse line crossing the fibular head and superior margin of the calcaneal tuberosity.
Results: The intramuscular neural distribution for the medial and lateral parts of the gastrocnemius had the greatest arborized patterns in the 7/10-8/10 section of the medial head and 7.5/10-8.5/10 section of the lateral part of the gastrocnemius.
Conclusion: We propose that BoNT injections should be directed to the 7/10-8/10 section of the medial head and the 7.5/10-8.5/10 section of the lateral part of the gastrocnemius. Following our guidelines, clinicians can ensure satisfactory results with the use of minimal doses to limit adverse effects, such as gait disturbance, antibody production, and bruising, due to multiple injections. The results can also be altered and applied to electromyography.

Evidence on regional muscle excitation within hamstrings remains controversial, primarily because information derived solely from surface electromyograms (sEMG) amplitude does not necessarily provide an accurate estimate of neural drive to the muscle. To address this limitation, this study investigated whether there are proximodistal differences in motor unit properties of the biceps femoris long head during isometric hip extension and knee flexion tasks. Seventeen resistance-trained males performed isometric knee flexion and hip extension tasks at 20 % and 40 % of maximal voluntary contraction.

Percutaneous intramuscular septal radiofrequency ablation (PIMSRA) provi des an innovative alternative to septal myectomy (SM) and alcohol septal ablation (ASA). The precise segmentation of the interventricular septal is of paramount importance for the successful execution of the PIMSRA procedure. The study is based on the feasibility of applying the neural network-based method of UNETR model to the automatic segmentation of ventricular septal free wall structure in cardiac CT images of patients with HOCM and the three-dimensional reconstruction method based on visualization toolkit (VTK).

Background: Chronic knee joint pain, resulting from osteoarthritis, post-surgical sequelae, or traumatic injuries, represents a debilitating clinical condition. Interventional approaches to manage chronic knee joint pain have been employed for decades, yielding variable outcomes in terms of pain relief, sustainability of analgesic effects, and functional restoration. The term "genicular nerves" is commonly used to refer to the primary sensory innervation of the knee joint capsule.

The eyelid performs critical functions to protect the eye and preserve functional vision. These functions are driven by contraction of the orbicularis oculi (OO), which is a unique skeletal muscle with a circular geometry and diffuse innervation. It is thought that this distributed innervation may allow for differential segmental activation and contraction, but it is not currently understood how sequenced activation patterns relate to differential muscle contraction, nor how segmental contraction creates the kinematics that drive the eyelid's critical functions.

The accurate localization of interfascial planes is critical for effective regional anesthesia, yet current techniques relying on ultrasound guidance can be challenging, especially in obese or pediatric patients. Previous cadaveric and clinical studies have suggested that injection pressure varies depending on needle placement relative to fascial and neural structures. This pilot study aimed to evaluate whether the continuous monitoring of injection pressure can reliably differentiate interfascial spaces from surrounding anatomical structures in a porcine tissue model.
