Article Abstract

Drought is one of the key environmental factors affecting the growth and yield potential of rice. Grain shape, on the other hand, is an important factor determining the appearance, quality, and yield of rice grains. Here, we re-sequenced 275 accessions and then conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on six agronomic traits with the 404,411 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) derived by the best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) for each trait. Under two years of drought stress (DS) and normal water (NW) treatments, a total of 16 QTLs associated with rice grain shape and grain weight were detected on chromosomes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, and 12. In addition, these QTLs were analyzed by haplotype analysis and functional annotation, and one clone () and five new candidate genes were identified in the candidate interval. The findings provide important genetic information for the molecular improvement of grain shape and weight in rice.

Thin films of CuSn Gd S were prepared on soda-lime glass substrates using spin coating in a sulfur-rich environment. We investigated how doping CuSnS with gadolinium (Gd) affected its structural, morphological, and optical properties using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and UV-Vis spectroscopy. XRD showed that all samples had a polycrystalline monoclinic structure, while FE-SEM revealed a mix of spherical and polygon-shaped grains.

For photodetection applications using 3D hybrid perovskites (HPs), dense and thick films or compacted powders in wafer form are needed and generally require large amounts of HPs. HPs are also often combined with a graphene/carbon layer to improve their conductivity. Among HP synthesis methods, mechanosynthesis, a green synthesis method, provides a large amount of powders, which are furthermore easily densified in compact wafers due to their mechanical activation.

Most clinical AI solutions center on patient data-particularly those from electronic health records (EHR)-while overlooking the clinician activities that shape care and signal patient outcomes. EHR use metadata, which capture fine-grained clinician-EHR interactions, represent a powerful yet underutilized resource that complements patient data. This perspective highlights the opportunity of integrating EHR use metadata with patient data to advance the development, evaluation, and real-world impact of clinical AI.

This study investigates the sensitivity of ultrasonic phase velocity and attenuation statistics to grain size distribution types, specifically monomodal and bimodal, in cubic finite-sized polycrystals with identical overall arithmetic or volumetric grain size statistics. A large ensemble of synthetic polycrystalline microstructures was generated, and their ultrasonic responses were computed using a modified spectral function method. The latter enables estimation of both effective phase velocities and attenuation coefficients while rigorously accounting for finite specimen dimensions and statistical variabilities across different samples.

Lipid membranes and membrane deformations are a long-standing area of research in soft matter and biophysics. Computer simulations have complemented analytical and experimental approaches as one of the pillars in the field. However, setting up and using membrane simulations can come with barriers due to the multidisciplinary effort involved and the vast choice of existing simulations models.
