Inferior vena cava (IVC) indices are commonly used to assess the need for fluid bolus during shock. It needs expertise and is difficult to do during surgical procedures. Plethysmograph variability index (PVI) is a simpler non-invasive tool used to measure fluid responsiveness in adults. However, the data on PVI in neonates is limited. This cross-sectional observational study was done at a tertiary level NICU to correlate PVI and IVC among spontaneously breathing neonates. The PVI was documented using the Masimo Radical 7 pulse oximeter. The IVC collapsibility index (IVC CI) was determined by bedside ultrasound. The Spearman correlation coefficient was analyzed. The PVI showed strong positive correlation with IVC CI (rho = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.474-0.762) (p <0.001). Thus, PVI can be a useful tool for hemodynamic monitoring of neonates. However, further studies are needed before applying it to clinical use.

The Pleth Variability Index (PVI) is a non-invasive parameter used to guide fluid management by reflecting respiratory-induced variations in the plethysmographic waveform. While PVI's reliability in various positions has been studied, data on its behavior in geriatric patients undergoing transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR-P) in the lithotomy position remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the lithotomy position on PVI in geriatric versus non-geriatric patients under spinal anesthesia.

Background: Rapid, reproducible, and noninvasive diagnostic methods like Ultrasonography (US) and plethysmographic measurements such as the perfusion index (PI) and pleth variablity index (PVI) have great potential value for emergency trauma cases in which blood loss needs to be recognized quickly and accurately.
Objectives: We planned this study to evaluate the utility of US, PI, and PVI in detecting early-stage hemorrhage and mimicking volume replacement using a platelet apheresis model.
Methods: This prospective, observational study included 46 healthy platelet apheresis volunteers who met inclusion criteria.
