Article Abstract

The present study aimed to evaluate the clinical value of macroscopic on-site evaluation (MOSE) of solid masses by endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) using a standard 22-gauge needle and to explore the cut-off length of macroscopic visible core (MVC) required to obtain an accurate histopathological diagnosis. In total, 119 patients who satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria and underwent EUS-FNA were divided into conventional FNA and FNA combined with MOSE groups. In the MOSE group, the presence of MVC was examined and its total length measured, after which the pathological results of FNA were compared with the final diagnosis. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of FNA in the two groups were calculated and the effect of MOSE on the FNA result was analyzed. The MOSE group had a higher diagnostic sensitivity (75.0% vs. 89.8%; P=0.038) and accuracy (74.5% vs. 90.6%; P=0.026). MVC was observed in 98.4% (63/64) of patients in the MOSE group. The median length of MVC was 15 mm. The optimal cut-off length of MVC for obtaining an accurate histological diagnosis was 13 mm, with a sensitivity of 90.2%. No statistically significant significance was observed in the specificity, PPV and NPV between the groups. Thus, MOSE helps to improve the diagnostic ability of FNA for solid masses and may be a useful alternative to assess the adequacy of puncture specimens in units where rapid on-site evaluation cannot be performed.

Introduction: Small cell bladder cancer is an aggressive histological subtype and represents one of the most common extra-pulmonary small cell carcinomas. Treatment options include radical cystectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or combinations of these three. However, the optimal treatment approach remains unknown.

Excitonic insulators represent a unique quantum phase of matter that enables the study of exotic quantum bosonic states. Strongly coupled electron-hole bilayers, which host stable dipolar exciton fluids with an exciton density that can be adjusted electrostatically, offer an ideal platform to investigate correlated excitonic insulators. On the basis of electron-hole bilayers made of MoSe/hexagonal boron nitride/WSe heterostructures, here we study the behaviour of excitonic insulators in a perpendicular magnetic field.

The control of unconventional magnetism, which displays ferromagnetismlike properties with compensated magnetization, has drawn intense attention for advancing antiferromagnetic spintronics. Here, through symmetry analysis, we propose a general stacking rule, characterized by a connection operator linking two stacked bilayers, for controlling unconventional magnetism via sliding ferroelectricity. Such a rule enables the simultaneous switching of both electric polarization and nonrelativistic spin splitting or anomalous Hall effect in altermagnets, a class of collinear unconventional magnets.

We directly characterize nanoscale spatiotemporal inhomogeneities of multi-layered molybdenum diselenide (MoSe) in real space and time - the nanometre-femtosecond scale, attributing to local mechanical structures such as strain and surface/subsurface defects, which are critical in semiconductor and optoelectronic applications. This remarkable precision is achieved through the development of a hyper-temporal transient nanoscopy incorporating a sideband-coupled generalized lock-in amplification technique, allowing for characterization of local spatiotemporal defects at each pixel within a subwavelength mapping region. By utilizing this technique, we characterize the nanoscale strain-induced spatiotemporal defects of multi-layered MoSe, including nano-bubbles that exhibit a noticeable reduction in exciton-exciton annihilation rates, which may attribute to the suppressed probability of bimolecular interaction of excitons due to the strain-induced band distortion.

BACKGROUND Doppler ultrasonography has emerged as a non-invasive method for evaluating vascular changes in preeclampsia. The ophthalmic artery emerges a novel target for hemodynamic assessment in preeclampsia. This study aimed to compare the Doppler ultrasound pulsatility index (PI) and resistive index (RI).
