Article Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effects of fluoride (F) gels supplemented with micrometric or nano-sized sodium trimetaphosphate (TMPmicro and TMPnano, respectively) on the in vitro remineralization of caries-like lesions.

Methodology: Bovine enamel subsurface lesions (n=168) were selected according to their surface hardness (SH) and randomly divided into seven groups (n=24/group): Placebo (without F/TMP), 4,500 ppm F (4500F), 4500F + 2.5% TMPnano (2.5% Nano), 4500F + 5% TMPnano (5% Nano), 4500F + 5% TMPmicro (5% Micro), 9,000 ppm F (9000F), and 12,300 ppm F (Acid gel). The gels were applied in a thin layer for one minute. Half of the blocks were subjected to pH cycling for six days, whereas the remaining specimens were used for loosely- (calcium fluoride; CaF2) and firmly-bound (fluorapatite; FA) fluoride analysis. The percentage of surface hardness recovery (%SHR), area of subsurface lesion (ΔKHN), CaF2, FA, calcium (Ca), and phosphorus (P) on/in enamel were determined. Data (log10-transformed) were subjected to ANOVA and the Student-Newman-Keuls' test (p<0.05).

Results: We observed a dose-response relation between F concentrations in the gels without TMP for %SHR and ΔKHN. The 2.5% Nano and 5% Micro reached similar %SHR when compared with 9000F and Acid gels. For ΔKHN, Placebo and 5% Nano gels had the highest values, and 5% Micro, 2.5% Nano, 9000F, and Acid gels, the lowest. All groups had similar retained CaF2 values, except for Placebo and Acid gel. We verified observed an increase in Ca concentrations in nano-sized TMP groups. Regarding P, TMP groups showed similar formation and retention to 9000F and Acid.

Conclusion: Adding 2.5% nano-sized or 5% micrometric TMP to low-fluoride gels lead to enhanced in vitro remineralization of artificial caries lesions.

Water resistance and hydration mechanism of phosphogypsum cemented paste backfill under composite curing agent modification.

Cemented paste backfill has made outstanding contributions to the large-scale consumption of phosphogypsum (PG), but poor water resistance significantly weakens the mechanical strength, promotes the leaching of total soluble phosphate (TP) and fluoride ions (F), and reduces its attractiveness in mine engineering. This research synthesized a curing agent (CA) using sodium methylsilicate, sodium silicate, and polyaluminum chloride (PAC). PG produced from Deyang Haohua Qingping Phosphate Mine Co.

High safety gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) is used in lithium metal solid state batteries, which has the advantages of high energy density, wide temperature range, high safety, and is considered as a subversive new generation battery technology. However, solid-state lithium batteries with multiple layers and large capacity currently have poor cycle life and a large gap between the actual output cycle capacity retention rate and the theoretical level. In this paper, polyvinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP)/polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-lithium perchlorate (LiClO)-lithium lanthanum zirconium tantalate (LLZTO) gel polymer electrolytes was prepared by UV curing process using a UV curing machine at a speed of 0.

Dental caries, the most prevalent oral issue, poses a significant global health challenge. Traditional treatments for dental caries, including fluoride, sealants, and surgical options such as fillings or extractions, can be expensive and have numerous limitations, depending on their severity. Furthermore, dental caries significantly impacts quality of life, leading to pain, dietary restrictions, and social discomfort.

Portable fluoride ion detection using hydrogel test kit integrated metal-organic framework-based ratiometric fluorescence nanoprobe.

A hydrogel test kit is presented that integrates a metal-organic framework (MOF)-based nanoprobe for portable fluoride ion (F) detection. This nanoprobe, denoted as ThT@UiO-66/Ru(bpy) (TUR), is fabricated by encapsulating thioflavin T (ThT) within a zirconium-based MOF (UiO-66), followed by adsorption of Ru(bpy) onto its surface. The confinement effect of UiO-66 restricts the conformational rotation of ThT, resulting in intense green fluorescence from ThT@UiO-66.

Fluoride application in middle childhood. A cross-sectional study.

Clin Oral Investig

August 2025

University Hospital for Conservative Dentistry and Periodontology, Medical University of Innsbruck, Anichstr. 35, Innsbruck, A- 6020, Austria.

Objectives: Fluoride application is crucial for caries prevention; yet guidelines for middle childhood remain limited. This study evaluated the daily fluoride exposure of children aged six to 12 years and compare the findings with the available recommendations.

Methods: Children applied their usual amount of toothpaste to a manual toothbrush, which was weighed before and after application.
