Article Abstract

As the world is shifting from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles in response to environmental pollution, the tire industry has been conducting research on tire performance to meet the requirements of electric vehicles. In this experiment, functionalized liquid butadiene rubber (F-LqBR) with triethoxysilyl groups at both ends was introduced into a silica-filled rubber compound as a substitute for treated distillate aromatic extract (TDAE) oil, and comparative evaluation was conducted according to the number of triethoxysilyl groups. The results showed that F-LqBRs improved silica dispersion in the rubber matrix through the formation of chemical bonds between silanol groups and the base rubber, and reduced rolling resistance by limiting chain end mobility and improving filler-rubber interaction. However, when the number of triethoxysilyl groups in F-LqBR was increased from two to four, self-condensation increased, the reactivity of the silanol groups decreased, and the improvement of properties was reduced. As a result, the optimized end functionality of triethoxysilyl groups for F-LqBR in silica-filled rubber compound was two. The 2-Azo-LqBR with the optimized functionality showed an improvement of 10% in rolling resistance, 16% in snow traction, and 17% in abrasion resistance when 10 phr of TDAE oil was substituted.

Zeolites are widely used as adsorbents due to their porous structure and ion-exchange capabilities. However, their adsorption efficiency for heavy metal ions remains limited. To enhance their performance, the natural zeolite heulandite () was functionalized with guanidine derivatives: N-[3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl]guanidine (), -aminoguanidine (), and -acetyl-guanidine ().

Synthetic clay analogues (SCAs) of a new organosilicate layered material family, in contrast to common clays, are produced via an in situ room-temperature sol-gel route, providing the possibility for the design and synthesis of diverse, tailor-made functional groups on the surface and interior of the synthetic clay sheets. In this work, we introduce organophyllosilicates bearing different functional end groups, which are synthesized by a magnesium metal salt precursor and organosilanes such as (3-aminopropyl)-triethoxysilane (APTEOS), -[3-(trimethoxysilyl)-propyl]-ethylenediamine (EDAPTEOS), -(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl)-diethylenetriamine (TAPTMOS), 1,4-bis-(triethoxysilyl)-benzene (BTB), tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GLYMO), and (3-chloropropyl)-trimethoxysilane (CPTMOS). The surface free energy for various organosynthetic clay analogues lies in the 29-252 mJ/m range.

We successfully synthesize monodisperse sulfhydryl-modified mesoporous organosilica nanospheres (MONs-SH) via one-step hydrolytic condensation, where cetyltrimethylammonium chloride and dodecyl sulfobetaine are employed as dual-template agents with (3-mercaptopropyl)triethoxysilane and 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane as the precursors and concentrated ammonia as the alkaline catalyst. The prepared MONs-SHs deliver a large specific surface area (729.15 m g), excellent monodispersity, and homogeneous particle size.

This work presents the development of a novel nanotube (S12HNTS-T-P) that is coated with polyethylenimine (PEI) and internally loaded with a corrosion inhibitor (thiourea) utilizing vacuum negative pressure and electrostatic adsorption methods. A smart self-healing coating with self-repairing properties was fabricated on the basis of S12HNTS-T-P. Bis[3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl]tetrasulfide (Si69), a widely used organosilane coupling agent, provides stability and corrosion resistance.

Hydrotalcite exhibits the capability to adsorb CO at elevated temperatures. High surface area and favorable coating properties are essential to harness its potential for practical applications. Stable alcohol-based dispersions are needed for thin film applications of mixed membranes containing hydrotalcite.
