Unlabelled: Respiratory diseases can share many of the same symptoms, highlighting the need for timely and accurate differentiation to facilitate effective clinical management and reduce transmission. Compared with centralized testing, molecular point-of-care tests (POCTs) can provide a faster time to result. We evaluated the RT-PCR POCT Cobas® SARS-CoV-2 & Influenza A/B qualitative assay for use on the Cobas Liat system (the POC SARS-CoV-2 & Influenza A/B test) in nasal and nasopharyngeal swab samples from 10 diverse healthcare facilities in the United States.

In cases where sputum is non-diagnostic or unavailable, bronchoscopy can yield high-value respiratory samples for tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis. Whilst (MTB) culture remains the gold standard, molecular assays such as Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra (Xpert Ultra) are increasingly being used for rapid diagnosis. Xpert Ultra is increasingly used for TB diagnosis and has been extensively evaluated on sputum specimens, but assessment of performance on bronchoscopy samples is more limited.

Fungal infections are an escalating health threat, and delays from conventional nucleic acid extraction hinder timely diagnosis and treatment. This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of a novel extraction-free technology, Direct-to-PCR (D2P; Scienetix, Tyler, TX, USA), for the detection of clinically significant Candida species (C. albicans, C.

Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants exhibit different phenotypes and clinical manifestations in comparison to non-mutated viruses. Spike gene target failure (SGTF) is a characteristic feature of the gene in a novel variant that is recognized as highly transmissible. Several studies have demonstrated the virucidal effects of mouthwashes on SARS-CoV-2.

Objectives: Wastewater-based surveillance applied to SARS-CoV-2 viral load quantification for COVID-19 has become one of the most relevant complementary tools in epidemiologic prevention programs worldwide. However, this valuable decision-making tool still requires fine-tuning to produce comparable results between laboratories, especially when applied to the surveillance of megacities.

Methods: Six laboratories across Mexico and one from the United States executed an interlaboratory study to set up a singular standardized protocol considering method cost, installed infrastructure, materials available, and supply availability for SARS-CoV-2 quantification from five Mexico City sampling sites across this megacity.
