Article Abstract

A smart gating membrane based on thermal-sensitive poly (N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM)-grafted nanocellulose and carbon nanotube (CNT) was prepared. The presence of PNIPAM shell on cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) endow the composite membrane with thermal responsiveness. By external stimulation, an increase temperature from 10 °C to 70 °C allows the average pore size of the membrane to be controlled from 28 nm to 110 nm, as well as the water permeance from 440 L·m·h·bar to 1088 L·m·h·bar. The gating ratio of the membrane can reach 2.47. The photothermal effect of CNT rapidly warms up the membrane to the lowest critical solution temperature in the water, avoiding the constraint that the whole water phase cannot be heated throughout the practical use process. The membrane can precisely control the nanoparticles to concentrate at 25.3 nm, 47.7 nm or 102 nm by adjust the temperature. In addition, the water permeance can be restored to 370 L·m·h·bar by washing the membrane under light. The smart gating membrane has a wide application in substance multi-stage separation and selective separation, and it can realize self-cleaning.

Recent quest for emulating lifelike smart materials for developing functional outcomes has been spurred by the unparalleled spatiotemporal control of natural systems. However, it is still highly challenging to replicate the progressive time-dependent programmable features of biological systems, such as adaptive broad-spectrum luminescence accompanying functions. Here in, a chemically-fueled transient hydrogel is created based on an aggregation-induced emission-active peptide conjugate (NI-VD).

Biological ion channels can regulate finely the ion transmembrane permeation, with superhigh ion selectivity and on-off ion flux in response to external stimuli, for signal transduction and energy conversion. However, fabricating smart artificial nanochannels with analogous functions remain challenging by single design of structure or charge property. In vivo, function basis of pH-gated TWIK-related acid-sensitive K channel 2 (TASK2) channels is attributed to synergy control of geometrical conformation and surface potential for filter gates.

Integrating renewable energy sources into the electricity grid requires accurate forecasts of solar power production. With the aim of enhancing the accuracy and reliability of forecasts, this study presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of eight state-of-the-art Deep Learning (DL) architectures-Autoencoder, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), Simple Recurrent Neural Network (SimpleRNN), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN), Transformer, and Lightweight Informer for Long Sequence Time-Series Forecasting (InformerLite)-applied to solar power prediction using a dataset with 4,200 historical records and 20 meteorological and astronomical features. A comprehensive assessment of Root Mean Squared Error [Formula: see text], Mean Absolute Error [Formula: see text], Mean Absolute Percentage Error [Formula: see text], and Coefficient of Determination [Formula: see text] metrics was performed on the training, validation, and test datasets.

The pathogen diversity to infiltrate the host organism highlights the demand for equally sophisticated mechanisms for their prevention. The development of "intelligent" agents with molecular logic capabilities are of great hope, but their full theranostic potential has yet to be realized. The original concept of nanoagents based on "Biocomputing based on particle disassembly" technology has been extended to nucleic acids (NAs) interfaces and inputs.
