The dependence of the DS on the acid anhydride/anhydroglucose unit ((RCO)O/AGU) molar ratio was correlated using second-order polynomials. The regression coefficients of the (RCO)O/AGU terms showed that increasing the length of the RCO group of the anhydride led to lower values of DS. For acylation under heterogeneous reaction conditions, the following were employed: acid anhydrides and butyryl chloride as acylating agents; iodine as a catalyst; N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as a solvent, pyridine, and triethylamine as solvents and catalysts. For acylation using acetic anhydride plus iodine, the values of DS correlate with reaction time by a second-order polynomial. Due to its role as a polar solvent and a nucleophilic catalyst, pyridine was the most effective base catalyst, independent of the acylating agent (butyric anhydride and butyryl chloride).

For decades, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) has been the primary plasticizer used to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC) blood bags flexible. DEHP leaches into the blood product, stabilizing red blood cell (RBC) membranes and preventing excessive hemolysis. Despite being classified as a substance of very high concern due to its potential endocrine-disrupting and carcinogenic effects, DEHP has continued to be used in red cell concentrate (RCC) storage bags, as alternatives have often led to reduced RCC quality during storage.

The aim of this study was to utilize cassava pulp to prepare biocomposites comprising microcrystalline cellulose from cassava pulp (CP-MCC) as a filler and polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) synthesized in-house by Cupriavidus necator strain A-04. The CP-MCC was extracted from fresh cassava pulp. Next, the CP-MCC surface was modified with butyryl chloride (esterified to CP-MCC butyrate) to improve dissolution and compatibility with the PHB.

The reaction of butyryl chloride with ethynylbenzene in the presence of AlCl afforded a mixture of the Z/E-isomers of 1-chloro-2-phenylhex-1-en-3-one. 1,2-Diphenylethyne under these conditions gave a novel polycarbocycle core, 6aH-benzo[a]fluorene. The chemical structure of 11-chloro-5,6-diphenyl-6a-propyl-6aH-benzo[a]fluorene was established by means of IE-MS, H, C NMR, COSY, HSQC, HMBC, and 2D INADEQUATE technique.
