Article Abstract

Core-shell composites with strong weather resistance, mechanical strength and creep resistance can be prepared using co-extrusion technology. Considering the weak bonding strength between core-shell interfaces, this study started from the concept of a mortise and tenon combination; three types of conical, rectangular and trapezoidal mortise and tenon joints were prepared, and their bending properties, long-term creep properties, interfacial bonding properties, and dimensional stability properties were tested. Results showed that the mortise and tenon structure could form a mechanical interlock between the outer-shell-layer polyvinyl chloride (PVC) wood-plastic composite (WPVC) and the inner-core-layer laminated veneer lumber (LVL), which could effectively improve the interface bonding property between the two layers. Among them, the trapezoidal mortise and tenon structure had the largest interface bonding force compared with the tapered and rectangular mortise and tenon structure, where the interface bonding strength reached 1.01 MPa. Excellent interface bonding can effectively transfer and disperse stress, so the trapezoidal mortise and tenon structure had the best bending properties and creep resistance, with a bending strength of 59.54 MPa and a bending modulus of 5.56 GPa. In the long-term creep test, the deformation was also the smallest at about 0.2%, and its bending properties, creep resistance and interface bonding performance were also the best. The bending strength was 59.54 MPa and the bending modulus was 5.56 GPa; in the long-term creep test, the strain curve was the lowest, about 0.2%. In addition, the mortise and tenon structure could disperse the stress of the inner shell LVL after water absorption and expansion, thus significantly improving the dimensional stability of the co-extruded composite after water absorption.

Among the diverse challenges encountered by fluorescence imaging in the second near-infrared region (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm), achieving high quantum yields (QYs) for contrast agents is critical yet rarely addressed. Herein, we demonstrate an approach to overcoming this issue through rational structural design that leverages hierarchical confinements at both molecular and aggregate levels. Through an alteration of methyl substituents, the rotational freedom of aromatic rings is effectively reduced, facilitating the formation of rigid mortise-and-tenon joints within the crystal lattice.

Mortise-tenon and joint-flange assembled foundation has excellent application as a new type of slab concrete assembled foundation, but there is a lack of research on its bearing capacity. In order to explore the mechanical characteristics and bearing capacity of this type of foundation under combined load (uplift-horizontal load), which is different from the traditional cast-in-place foundation, the uplift bearing model of mortise-tenon and joint-flange assembled foundation and the uplift model of cast-in-place foundation with the same specification were established based on the actual geological environment by finite element software. The stress distribution, vertical and horizontal displacements, and uplift and horizontal bearing capacities of the foundations were simulated and calculated.

Hydrogen production through low-temperature methanol steam reforming (MSR) reaction plays a critical role in the development of new energy but remains a great challenge. Herein, we report a Cu/Zn(Ga)O catalyst, which is prepared via an interface reconstruction strategy. Interestingly, this catalyst is featured with a unique mortise-and-tenon structure: Cu nanoparticles are embedded into the Zn(Ga)O substrate, which ensures a stable Zn-O-Cu-O-Ga interface structure.

This paper proposes a new type of Z-shaped prefabricated mortise and tenon joint box culvert designed to enhance the longitudinal connection stability of highway prefabricated box culverts. Using actual engineering parameters and material properties, finite element simulation software was employed to analyze the culvert. The results indicated that maximum deformation and stress concentration occurred at the ends and armpits of the groove joint, specifically at the junction of the two culverts.

This retrospective study aims to evaluate the design, intraoperative stability, and postoperative anterior chamber sealing efficacy of mortise and tenon limbal incisions (MTLIs) compared to clear corneal incisions (CCIs) in phacoemulsification cataract surgery, focusing on its safety and effectiveness. 564 patients (MTLI = 282, CCI = 282) undergoing phacoemulsification were stratified by Emery-Little nuclear grades (III-V). Primary outcomes included stromal hydration necessity and more than 3 intraoperative anterior chamber collapses.
