Article Abstract

Jingmen tick virus (JMTV) is a tick-borne segmented positive-sense ssRNA virus that can cause human disease. This virus has been confirmed to be widespread, having a wide host range. In human it can cause fever, headache, lymphadenopathy, and asthenia. Therefore, JMTV poses a threat to public health. In this study, we collected 478 ticks from imported cattle on three quarantine farms near the Yunnan border to detect medically significant tick-borne viruses. Our findings show that JMTV was the only detected virus, with an incidence rate of 56.67%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that our JMTV is more closely related to previously reported JMTV strains from Yunnan Province and neighboring Laos, implying that the tick-borne virus was most likely imported from Laos. In conclusion, we identified and characterized a novel JMTV strain in tick ) from Yunnan imported cattle, emphasizing the importance of arbovirus quarantine of livestock imports.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) has emerged as a major agent of acute viral hepatitis, with zoonotic genotype 4 (HEV-4) representing a public health concern in China. In this study, we integrated province-wide enhanced hepatitis E surveillance data and molecular profiling from Shandong Province of eastern China, 2019-2023, with the aim of elucidating the epidemiology, genetic diversity, and clinical correlations of autochthonous HEV infections. In total, 5826 cases were reported during the study period, with 72.

Introduction: Metabolic alkalosis induced by prepartum diet cations impairs Ca homeostasis in the periparturient cow. Adding anions to prepartum diets reduces blood pH improving periparturient Ca homeostasis. Urine pH generally reflects blood pH and is practical to measure on farm.

Background: Accurate assignment of breed origin of alleles (BOA) at a heterozygote locus may help to introduce a resilient or adaptive haplotype in crossbreeding. In this study, we developed and tested a method to assign breed of origin for individual alleles in crossbred dairy cattle. After generations of mating within and between local breeds as well as the importation of exotic bulls, five rounds of selected crossbred cows were simulated to mimic a dairy breeding program in the low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Respiratory tract infections remain a major challenge in cattle production, particularly in calves, but increasingly in adult dairy cows. Over the past decade, outbreaks of fatal Mannheimia haemolytica fibrinous pleuropneumonia (FPP) emerged in dairy herds in the Netherlands, with similar occurrences reported in other countries. The objective of this case-referent study was to describe the characteristics of these outbreaks and the circumstances under which they occur.
