Asthma is one of the most prevalent chronic respiratory illnesses, significantly impacting patients through shortness of breath and even death. Acute exacerbations are usually controlled with a short-acting beta agonist, such as an albuterol inhaler, as well as long-acting agents to prevent the occurrence of exacerbations and status asthmaticus. Status asthmaticus is an emergent episode of asthma that is refractory to standard treatment.

Introduction: Flexible bronchoscopy (FB) is widely used for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in pulmonary medicine. However, FB can cause respiratory and haemodynamic complications, especially in patients with pre-existing lung and/or cardiovascular comorbidities. Despite the range of oxygenation and ventilatory approaches available to prevent these risks, evidence regarding their real-world application and clinical impact is limited.

Background And Objective: Aminophylline may play a role in managing both stable and exacerbating COPD, but its use is controversial due to its narrow therapeutic window. We aimed to evaluate the role of aminophylline in acute exacerbations of COPD under monitored conditions in patients who remained acidotic and hypercapnic after 48 hours of maximal treatment.
Methods: We conducted a prospective, nonrandomized cohort study with 30 patients receiving aminophylline infusion in addition to standard care, matched to 20 historical controls.

Introduction: International medical oncology societies recommended early integration of palliative care to alleviate symptoms, improve quality of life and significantly reduce aggressiveness of care near the end of life, defined as the use of chemotherapy, high rate of hospitalisation/visits to emergency or intensive care unit in the last month of life or death in acute care unit. However, the most appropriate schedule for patient referral is still to be determined. Scores and criteria are debated, with uncontrolled symptoms (pain, dyspnoea, distress, etc) being one of the main indicators.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare genetic connective tissue disorder characterized by bone fragility, most often caused by pathogenic variants in type I collagen genes. In this context, we aimed to describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of patients with OI who were hospitalized for coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 in Brazil between 2020 and 2024. We conducted a retrospective descriptive analysis using data from the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS, which stands for the Portuguese ) through the Open-Data-SUS platform.
