Food waste generated throughout the food supply chain raises several environmental, social, and economic issues. Quantitative methods can aid in managing food waste by describing current contexts, predicting future scenarios, and improving related operations. However, a literature review on the use of quantitative methods, specifically the descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive dimensions, to assess and prevent food waste is lacking.

Food insecurity and the spread of infectious disease are among the two major problems facing the world today especially in poor rural communities. Unfortunately, these two problems are related as many poor rural communities with food insecurity issues are also endemic to some food and waterborne diseases. A mathematical model that takes into consideration the major factors affecting food insecurity and disease is developed and used to analyse the problems.

Hemostatic intervention at the bleeding site during early-phase wound management plays a crucial role in reducing trauma-induced complications and mortality, while advanced wound dressings facilitate hemorrhage control, exudate management, and antimicrobial protection to promote optimal healing outcomes. To address these issues, we developed a multifunctional collagen/silk fibroin/Mg(OH)₂ (Col/SF/Mg(OH)₂) composite sponge combining enhanced mechanical strength, rapid hemostasis, and broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. The incorporation of silk fibroin (SF) through covalent crosslinking increased the elastic modulus by 4.

Previous studies have demonstrated that metric learning approaches yield remarkable performance in the field of kinship verification. Nevertheless, a prevalent limitation of most existing methods lies in their over-reliance on learning exclusively from specified types of given kin data, which frequently results in information isolation. Although generative-based metric learning methods present potential solutions to this problem, they are hindered by substantial computational costs.

The multifunctional systems presented here introduce an innovative and deeply thought-out approach to the more effective and safer use of temozolomide (TMZ) in treating glioma. The developed hydrogel-based flakes were designed to address the issues of local GBL therapy, bacterial neuroinfections, and the bleeding control needed during tumor resection. The materials obtained comprise TMZ and vancomycin (VANC) loaded into cyclodextrin/polymeric capsules and embedded into gelatin/hyaluronic acid/chitosan-based hydrogel films cross-linked with genipin.
