Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of five alkaline peroxide-based effervescent tablets in reducing both biofilms and the food layer adhered on the cobalt-chromium surface.
Methods: Cobalt-chromium metal alloy specimens were contaminated with Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, Streptococcus mutans and Staphylococcus aureus. After biofilm maturation, the specimens were immersed in Polident 3 Minute, Polident for Partials, Efferdent, Steradent, Corega Tabs or distilled water (control). Residual biofilm rates were determined by colony forming units counts and biofilm biomass. In parallel, to investigate the denture cleaning capability of effervescent tablets, artificially contaminated removable partial dentures were treated with each cleanser. Data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis followed by Dunn post hoc test or ANOVA followed by Tukey post hoc test (α= 0.05).
Results: None of the hygiene solutions reduced C. albicans biofilm. Efferdent and Corega Tabs promoted reduction of C. glabrata biofilm, while Steradent was favorable against S. aureus biofilm. For S. mutans, lower biofilm rates were observed after immersion in Polident for Partials and Steradent. The effervescent tablets showed good cleaning performance, removing an artificial layer with carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, however, they were not effective in removing aggregated mature biofilm.
Clinical Significance: The different effervescent tablets presented favorable antimicrobial activity against C. glabrata, S. mutans and S. aureus on cobalt-chromium surfaces and showed cleaning capability. However, for an appropriate biofilm control, a complementary method should be evaluated since none of the peroxide-based solutions reduced C. albicans biofilms or substantially removed aggregated biofilm.

This study evaluated the efficacy of Acacia Arabica and aloe vera solutions versus commercial effervescent tablets on viability and adhesion to various denture bases with different materials and manufacturing techniques.A total of 96 square-shaped denture base specimens (24 per group) were fabricated from heat-cured polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), thermoformed polyamide (FlexiUltra), milled computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM; Avadent), and 3D-printed (FormLabs) resins. Specimens were allocated into a control group (distilled water) and three experimental groups ( = 6 per group) based on the immersion solutions: Gum acacia (GA), aloe vera, and alkaline peroxide denture cleansers.

Background: Biofilm formation by bacteria on the lower limb arises from reduced peripheral arterial blood flow, which can lead to the failure of antibiotic therapy or require longer duration of intravenous antibiotic therapy in diabetic foot infection-associated osteomyelitis. N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), an agent known to prevent and treat biofilm-related infections, was used as a novel strategies beside antibiotic therapy in osteomyelitis of diabetic foot with the aim of accelerating the response to antibiotic therapy regimen.
Methods: To assess the synergistic effect of NAC with antibiotic therapy, patients with diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) (grade III or IV Wagner) were randomly assigned to either NAC 600 mg effervescent tablet twice daily for 2 weeks or the control group.

Statement Of Problem: Different cleaning protocols may alter the surface integrity of occlusal devices, yet their effects on devices fabricated by additive, subtractive, and conventional methods remain unclear.
Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effects of different cleaning protocols on the surface roughness and hardness of heat-polymerized polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM)-milled, and 3-dimensionally (3D) printed occlusal devices.
Material And Methods: One hundred eighty disk-shaped specimens (Ø16×3 mm) were fabricated from 3 occlusal device materials: heat-polymerized PMMA (HP), CAD-CAM-milled (ML), and 3D printed resin (3D).
