In addition to many cellular processes, Ca is also involved in tumor initiation, progression, angiogenesis, and metastasis. The development of new tools for single-cell Ca measurement could open a new avenue for cancer therapy. The all-solid-state calcium ion-selective microelectrode (Ca-ISμE) based on carbon fiber modified with PEDOT (PSS) as solid-contact was developed in this work, and the characteristics of the Ca-ISμE have also been investigated. The Ca-ISμE exhibits a stable Nernstian response in CaCl solutions in the active range of 1.0 × 10 - 3.1 × 10 M with a low detection limit of 8.9 × 10 M. The Ca-ISμE can be connected to a patch clamp to fabricate a single-cell analysis platform for calcium monitoring of a single renal carcinoma cell. The calcium signal decreased significantly (8.6 ± 3.2 mV, n = 3) with severe fluctuations of 5.9 ± 1.8 mV when the concentration of K in the tumor microenvironment is up to 20 mM. The results indicate a severe cell response of a single renal carcinoma cell under high K stimuli. The detection system could also be used for single-cell analysis of other ions by changing different ion-selective membranes with high temporal resolution.

Purpose: This study aimed to report and characterize bilateral renal artery (RA) variations observed during cadaveric dissection and to evaluate these findings in the context of embryological development and morphometric analysis.
Case Presentation: During routine anatomical dissection of an 87-year-old Caucasian male cadaver, bilateral variations in the renal arteries were identified. On the right side, two renal arteries (RRA1 and RRA2) were observed, each giving rise to presegmental and segmental branches.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) have emerged as powerful tools in nanomedicine owing to their heavy-metal-free composition, distinct magnetic properties, biocompatibility, and customizable surface chemistry. While traditionally employed as T-weighted MRI contrast agents, recent innovations have enabled the development of ultra-small SPIONs-such as exceedingly small SPIONs (ES-SPIONs) and single-nanometer iron oxide nanoparticles (SNIOs)-that offer T-weighted MRI capabilities, which are favored by radiologists for their superior anatomical clarity. This review highlights the synthesis of monodisperse SPIONs via thermal decomposition and controlled oxidation, as well as their functionalization with zwitterionic dopamine sulfonate (ZDS) ligands, which confer colloidal stability, minimal protein adsorption, and efficient renal clearance.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable blood cancer characterized by clonal bone marrow plasmacytosis, hypercalcemia, renal failure, anemia, and osteolytic bone disease. Approximately 20% of NDMM patients, not predicted to have high-risk disease at diagnosis, progress early, despite optimal induction +/- ASCT and lenalidomide maintenance, and are subsequently categorized as functional high-risk (FHR) disease. Standardized risk-stratification models incorporate biomarkers of tumor burden, existence of high-risk cytogenetics, with the presence/absence of plasma cell leukemia/extramedullary disease to attribute high-risk at diagnosis; however, depth/duration of response to novel agent-based induction (NA-IND) as dynamic markers of disease risk have not been defined.

Long-term effects of COVID-19 in kidney transplant recipients who survived the infection are unknown. We evaluated the long-term effects of early phase COVID-19 on patient and graft survival, as well as graft function, in kidney transplant recipients who survived the acute phase of the COVID-19 infection.
