Article Abstract

Background: Traditional herbal medicines usually contain electron shuttle (ES)-like structures compounds which are potential candidates for antiviral compounds selection. is applied as a biomaterial to decipher its potential applications in bioenergy extraction in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) and anti-COVID-19 via molecular docking evaluation.

Methods: leaves extracts by water and 60% ethanol solvent were analyzed for total polyphenols, antioxidant activity, cyclic voltammetry (CV), and MFCs. The bioactive compounds of leaves extracts were assayed via LC/MS analysis. Identification of the marker substances for potential antiviral activity using a molecular docking model was provided.

Significant Findings: 60% ethanol extract exhibits the highest total polyphenols and antioxidant activity compared with water extracts. Bioenergy extraction in MFCs showed that 60% ethanol extracts could give 1.76-fold more power generation compared to the blank. Flavonoids and their sugar-to-glycan ratios increased after CV scanning and they are expected to be effective ES substances. Quercitrin, from the extract that shares an ES-like structure, was found to exhibit strong binding affinities towards ACE2 and RdRp. This indicated the potential of leaves as a promising antiviral herb.

Secondary metabolites are important bioactive compounds for diet and medicine. This study optimizes the extraction of hydroethanolic herbal extracts using an EDGE (Energized Dispersive Guided Extraction) system, evaluates their antioxidant capacity, and analyzes correlations among antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, and individual compounds. A Doehlert matrix design was used to optimize extraction, having temperature and time as independent variables, and total phenolic content (mg GAE/g) as the response, quantified via the Folin-Ciocalteu method.

The contamination of dental curing light tips was evaluated before and after treatment and after their use and disinfection. The influence of a plastic protective barrier over the flexural strength and the modulus of elasticity of resin composites were also analyzed. Microbiological sampling was conducted at initial contamination (T0), in Log 10 CFU/4 mL; after dental treatment (T1); and after disinfection with 70% ethanol (v/v) (T2).

Background: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most frequent head and neck cancers. The 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4NQO) mouse model of oral carcinogenesis is a well-established model to investigate the mechanism behind OSCC development, including epigenetic alterations. Studies have shown that histone acetylation is a key regulator of gene expression and may play a role in such a tumor.

Controllable synthesis of -hexagonal ZnAl-LDHs nanosheets for high-performance room-temperature ethanol gas sensing.

Dalton Trans

September 2025

School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Hebei University of Technology, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Electronic Materials and Devices, 5340 Xiping Road, Beichen District, Tianjin, 300401, China.

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have attracted considerable attention in gas sensing applications due to their highly tunable chemical composition and unique two-dimensional layered architecture. In this study, a series of ZnAl-LDHs with varying Zn/Al molar ratios were synthesized a facile hydrothermal method, and their ethanol sensing performance at room temperature was systematically evaluated. The influence of composition on the structural, morphological, and electronic properties of the materials was thoroughly investigated using a suite of characterization techniques, including XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, BET, XPS, PL, and EPR.

Background: Monitoring industrial processes is critical for ensuring consistent product quality, as consumers expect uniformity across different production batches. In the case of herbal extracts, such as rosemary hydroalcoholic extracts, it is essential to control the yield of target compounds to maintain both the expected quality and safety. Typically, these extracts are produced in an extractor and then analyzed separately in a laboratory (offline).
