The pathology of Parkinson's disease (PD) involves the death of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN), which slowly influences downstream basal ganglia pathways as dopamine transport diminishes. Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been used to diagnose PD by assessing white matter connectivity in some brain areas. For this study, we applied Lead-DBS to human connectome project data to automatically segment 11 subcortical structures of 49 human connectome project subjects, reducing the reliance on manual segmentation for more consistency. The Lead-connectome pipeline, which utilizes DSI Studio to generate structural connectomes from each 3T and 7T diffusion image, was applied to 3T and 7T data to investigate possible differences in diffusion measures due to different acquisition protocols. Significantly higher fractional anisotropy (FA) values were found in the 3T left SN; significantly higher MD values were found in the 3T left SN and the right amygdala, SN, and subthalamic nucleus (STN); significantly higher AD values were found in the right RN and STN; and significantly higher RD values were found in the left RN and right amygdala. We illustrate a methodology for obtaining diffusion measures of basal ganglia and basal ganglia connectivity using diffusion images, as well as show possible differences in diffusion measures that can arise due to the differences in MRI acquisitions.

In ultrasound imaging, propagation of an acoustic wavefront through heterogeneous media causes phase aberrations that degrade the coherence of the reflected wavefront, leading to reduced image resolution and contrast. Adaptive imaging techniques attempt to correct this phase aberration and restore coherence, leading to improved focusing of the image. We propose an autofocusing paradigm for aberration correction in ultrasound imaging by fitting an acoustic velocity field to pressure measurements, via optimization of the common midpoint phase error (CMPE), using a straight-ray wave propagation model for beamforming in diffusely scattering media.

To evaluate whether age modifies the association between the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and overall survival (OS) in patients aged ≥ 18 years with newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), we conducted a multi-centre retrospective study of 552 patients. Multivariable Cox regression with restricted cubic spline (RCS) modelling showed that GNRI was significantly associated with OS, but the relationship was non-linear (P for non-linearity = 0.0158).

For optoelectronic devices based on lead-halide perovskites and other semiconductors, a comprehensive understanding of the electric field influences on the carrier transport characteristics is critical to the optimization of their practical performances. To fulfill this challenging goal, here we have employed photoluminescence spatial image and transient absorption microscopy measurements on an individual CsPbBr microplate biased at external voltages in an Au/CsPbBr/Au device. At the subpicosecond time scale, some photogenerated excitons are dissociated into free electrons and holes that drift toward the electrodes to leave behind unfilled defect sites, which are capable of scattering the residual excitons to yield a reduced diffusion coefficient.
