Background: There are many different techniques to achieve intermaxillary fixation (IMF) for open reduction of mandible fractures. The arch bar has long been used as the gold standard of IMF to assist open reduction. However, owing to its long operating time, risk of needle stick injury, and gingival trauma, surgeons looked into different treatment options for IMF, such as the skeletal anchorage system (SAS). Therefore, this study aimed to compare the stability between IMF with arch bar and IMF with SAS based on computed tomography image.
Materials And Methods: In this retrospective study, postoperative computed tomography and panoramic radiographs were taken 1 week and 6 months after surgery, respectively. The treatment of mandibular fractures using IMF with arch bar and SAS were compared by evaluating changes in the dental midlines and condyle positions. Thirty patients with mandibular fractures were enrolled into 2 groups-IMF with arch bar and IMF with SAS.
Results: The arch bar showed slightly more deviation in dental midline. In SAS, the condyle moved more medially compared with the arch bar.
Conclusions: Skeletal anchorage system could be used for IMF with reliable stability in mandible fracture. There were no significant differences in the treatment outcome between the 2 groups.

A taxonomic reassessment of populations in the upper Jordan River basin has revealed that specimens previously identified as actually represent an undescribed species. In addition, earlier taxonomic revisions have shown that is a junior synonym of and should no longer be regarded as a valid species. In this study, we formally describe the newly recognized species as is characterized by 39-44 scales along the mid-lateral row, 13-17 pored lateral line scales, and 20-23 predorsal scales.

The skull base exhibits numerous morphologic variants, some of which are uncommon and hold clinical significance. The imaging report presents a rare instance of multiple skull base variants identified incidentally through a computed tomography (CT) scan of a 53-year-old female patient. The findings revealed a bilateral partial atlanto-occipital fusion (AOF), an absent C1 posterior arch, and a complete bilateral ossification of the caroticoclinoid and anterior interclinoid ligaments in the form of bars (CCBs and AIBs).

Introduction: Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) is a frequent complication in critically ill patients and is associated with increased mortality. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of the lactate/albumin ratio (LAR) and other albumin-based biomarkers in predicting SA-AKI.
Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted on 564 patients with sepsis, divided into two groups based on the presence (n = 298) or absence (n = 266) of AKI.

Purpose: Children of mothers experiencing mental illness are known to exhibit elevated rates of developmental delays. However, there is little evidence-based research on the impact of perinatal psychiatric admissions. Here we aim to quantify the association between maternal mental illness that leads to admission, and the likelihood of child developmental delay.
