Article Abstract

We present the first version of the Ocean Circulation and Carbon Cycling (OC3) working group database, of oxygen and carbon stable isotope ratios from benthic foraminifera in deep ocean sediment cores from the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, 23-19 ky) to the Holocene (<10 ky) with a particular focus on the early last deglaciation (19-15 ky BP). It includes 287 globally distributed coring sites, with metadata, isotopic and chronostratigraphic information, and age models. A quality check was performed for all data and age models, and sites with at least millennial resolution were preferred. Deep water mass structure as well as differences between the early deglaciation and LGM are captured by the data, even though its coverage is still sparse in many regions. We find high correlations among time series calculated with different age models at sites that allow such analysis. The database provides a useful dynamical approach to map physical and biogeochemical changes of the ocean throughout the last deglaciation.

Metabolization of the two most abundant polysaccharides, cellulose and chitin, by an extreme generalist insect, the American cockroach.

Cellulose and chitin are the two most abundant polysaccharides on Earth. To digest these structural carbohydrates, herbivorous and omnivorous insects typically rely on cellulases, while insectivorous species often express chitinases. The American cockroach (Periplaneta americana), an extreme generalist omnivore, is known to thrive on a variety of diets.

While mercury (Hg) concentration and isotope analyses play pivotal roles in understanding contamination levels and Hg sources, complex hydrodynamics often obscure Hg transport pathways from source to sink. We applied hydrodynamic modeling with Hg stable isotopes to unravel source-specific contamination processes and propose effective management strategies in an estuarine system (Yeongil Bay) impacted by Hg-contaminated riverine input (Hyeongsan River) in Korea. Sediment isotope data revealed contributions of three sources: legacy Hg from the river, regional background Hg, and atmospheric Hg sources.

How does large-scale underground mining affect the water cycle? - Comprehensive analysis based on isotopes, water levels and hydrogeological conditions.

Large-scale underground coal mining alters regional water cycles, yet the mechanisms governing interactions among water bodies in deep mining areas are poorly understood. For this purpose, by integrating hydrogen and oxygen isotopes, water levels, hydrogeological conditions, and end-member mixing analysis (EMMA), this study systematically analyzed and quantified the circulation and transformation mechanisms among different water bodies influenced by coal mining. Key findings reveal: (1) Mining-induced fractures disrupt the aquitard above the coal seam, establishing a direct hydraulic link between Zhiluo Formation confined groundwater and mine water, with the former contributing 87.

Clinical progression on CDR-SB©: Progression-free time at each 0.5 unit level in dominantly inherited and sporadic Alzheimer's disease populations.

Introduction: Clinical Dementia Rating Sum of Boxes (CDR-SB) is a reliable and clinically meaningful composite for assessing treatment effects in Alzheimer's disease (AD) clinical trials. Small CDR-SB differences at the end of a trial often lead to controversy in deriving clinically meaningful interpretations.

Methods: We estimated progression-free time (PFT) participants remained at each 0.

Using eDNA tools to examine the impact of kelp farming on underlying sediments.

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, East Boothbay, Maine, United States of America.

Using environmental DNA (eDNA)-based tools, we examined sediments underlying a ~ 1.25 hectare commercial kelp farm in the Gulf of Maine growing sugar kelp (Saccharina latissima) for two farming seasons, post-harvest. Two eDNA methods were used: a newly designed S.
