Artificial intelligence (AI)-based analysis has recently been adopted in the examination of histological slides via the digitization of glass slides using a digital scanner. In this study, we examined the effect of varying the staining color tone and magnification level of a dataset on the result of AI model prediction in hematoxylin and eosin stained whole slide images (WSIs). The WSIs of liver tissues with fibrosis were used as an example, and three different datasets (N20, B20, and B10) were prepared with different color tones and magnifications. Using these datasets, we built five models trained Mask R-CNN algorithm by a single or mixed dataset of N20, B20, and B10. We evaluated their model performance using the test dataset of three datasets. It was found that the models that were trained with mixed datasets (models B20/N20 and B10/B20), which consist of different color tones or magnifications, performed better than the single dataset trained models. Consequently, superior performance of the mixed models was obtained from the actual prediction results of the test images. We suggest that training the algorithm with various staining color tones and multi-scaled image datasets would be more optimized for consistent remarkable performance in predicting pathological lesions of interest.

Titanium is widely used for dental implant abutments due to its mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and corrosion resistance; however, its gray coloration can compromise esthetic outcomes, particularly in patients with thin or translucent gingival biotypes. Anodization, a surface modification technique altering the titanium oxide layer, has been proposed to improve soft tissue aesthetics by producing abutments with warmer tones (eg, pink or gold) that harmonize with the surrounding gingiva. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the clinical and aesthetic outcomes of anodized titanium abutments compared to non-anodized titanium and other materials, with a focus on peri-implant soft tissue health and visual integration.

Background: Early detection of vascular compromise is pivotal for successful microvascular flap reconstruction, as tissue necrosis can begin within 6 to 8 hours of circulatory impairment. Although conventional monitoring relies on subjective clinical assessment of color, temperature, and capillary refill-methods with inherent observer variability and diminished utility in patients with darker skin tones-emerging technologies offer potential for more objective evaluation. This study compared the efficacy of infrared thermography (IRT), a noninvasive modality that quantifies perfusion through precise temperature mapping, with traditional clinical methods for postoperative flap monitoring.

Augmented reality (AR) aims to combine elements of the surrounding environment with additional virtual content into a combined viewing scene. Displaying virtual human faces is a widespread practical application of AR technology, which can be challenging in optical see-through AR (OST-AR) because of limitations in its color reproduction. Specifically, OST-AR's additive optical blending introduces transparency and color-bleeding, which is exacerbated especially for faces having darker skin tones, and for brighter and more chromatic ambient environments.

Spodumene, a lithium-rich pyroxene mineral, exhibits a wide range of colors and distinctive luminescent properties, yet the mechanisms underlying its coloration and fluorescence remain incompletely understood. In this study, twelve natural spodumene samples of varying colors (purple, yellow, green, and nearly colorless) were systematically analyzed by modern testing technology. Color variation of the sample is primarily controlled by the Mn/Fe ratio, with purple tones corresponding to Mn/Fe > 1, yellow to green to Mn/Fe < 1, and colorless samples showing negligible Mn and Fe content.
