Article Abstract

The var. (CCS) plant grows predominantly in temperate regions of Asian countries, such as South Korea. Research on CCS has so far concentrated on the nutritional analysis, antioxidant activity, and anti-inflammation properties of its branches. However, the isolation of compounds and structural elucidation of effective single molecules remain unexplored, necessitating further exploration of CCS branches. Therefore, this study demonstrates the antioxidant and antimelanogenic activity of a single substance of ethyl gallate (EG) isolated from CCS branch extracts. Notably, the antimelanogenic (whitening) activity of EG extracted from CCS branches remains unexplored. Tyrosinase inhibition, kinetic enzyme assays, and molecular docking studies were conducted using mushroom tyrosinase in order to examine the antioxidant mechanism and antimelanin activity of EG in B16F10 melanoma cells. Nontoxic EG concentrations were found to be below 5 µg/mL. While EG significantly reduced the levels of whitening-associated proteins, p-CREB, and p-PKA, it dose-dependently inhibited the expression of TYR, TRP-1, TRP-2, and transcription factor (MITF). In addition, EG downregulated melanogenetic gene expression and activated autophagy signals. Therefore, EG extracted from CCS branches could serve as a novel functional cosmetic material with antimelanogenic and autophagy-enhancing activity.

Objective: This study aimed to report the 2 year outcomes obtained with the E-nside endograft (Artivion) for the treatment of complex abdominal aortic aneurysm (cAAA) and thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA).

Methods: This was a prospective, multicentre study. Data from the multicentre ItaliaN Branched Registry of E-nside EnDograft (INBREED) were analysed.

Over the past decade, global contamination from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) has become apparent due to their detection in countless matrices worldwide, from consumer products to human blood to drinking water. As researchers implement nontargeted analyses (NTA) to more fully understand the PFAS present in the environment and human bodies, clear guidance is needed for consistent and objective reporting of the identified molecules. Confidence levels for small molecules analyzed and identified with high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) have existed since 2014; however, unification of currently used levels and improved guidance for their application is needed due to inconsistencies in reporting and continuing innovations in analytical methods.

Purpose: Giant sliding hiatal hernias (HH) are prevalent in the elderly population (EP) and often present with multiple comorbidities and a high surgical risk. Frailty has been increasingly recognized as a predictor of surgical outcomes in the EP. This study assessed the rate of recurrent sliding HH following mesh cruroplasty and laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (LNF), and evaluated frailty as a potential risk factor of recurrence.

Knockout of thyroid hormone receptor alpha a (thraa) enhances cardiac regeneration in zebrafish through metabolic and hypoxic regulation.

Background: Thyroid hormone (TH) signaling drives cardiomyocyte (CM) maturation in endothermic animals. Elevated TH levels, coupled with increased basal metabolism, promote CM cell cycle exit and polyploidization, thus limiting heart regenerative potential. However, a comprehensive understanding of TH and its receptors, thyroid hormone receptors (TRs), orchestrating with other regulatory processes for heart regeneration, such as the hypoxia signaling pathway and post-injury metabolic switches, remains elusive.
