Article Abstract

Background: Complex visual hallucinations (VH) are a common complication of Parkinson's disease (PD). Recent studies have demonstrated relevance of face pareidolia to VH in PD and Lewy body dementia (LBD).

Objective: This study examined utility of the 20-item Noise Pareidolia Task (NPT-20) in assessing visuoperceptual disturbances associated with VH in PD.

Methods: Retrospective chart review included 46 consecutive PD patients who completed NPT-20 during clinical neuropsychological evaluation.

Results: About half the sample (43%) reported VH. PD with VH made significantly more false-positive pareidolia errors on the NPT-20 ( < 0.0001). A cut-off of 2 errors yielded 40% sensitivity, 100% specificity to VH; cut-off of 1 yielded 75% sensitivity, 81% specificity. NPT-20 was not associated with any other clinical or demographic factor. Across groups, NPT-20 evinced moderate correlations with visuospatial functioning and visual memory.

Conclusions: Current findings support utility of the NPT-20 for evaluating visuoperceptual disturbances associated with VH in PD.

Objective: Researchers have differentiated forms (overt, relational) and functions (proactive, reactive) of aggressive behavior; however, the assessment options for measuring these constructs in youth remain limited. This study examined the parent-report Peer Conflict Scale (PCS) for measuring forms and functions of youth aggressive behavior in English and Spanish, including short- and long-form versions.

Method: Participants were caregivers of 653 youths (ages 6-17; 57% male; 48% Hispanic) throughout North America.

Introduction: Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) at risk of HIV frequently have symptoms of common mental disorders (CMDs), which are associated with lower pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) adherence. We conducted a pilot hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial (CHOMA) to evaluate whether an evidence-based mental health intervention adapted for PrEP delivery ("Youth Friendship Bench SA") could address CMD and PrEP adherence among South African AGYW.

Methods: CHOMA was conducted in Johannesburg from April 2023 to February 2024.

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent pediatric sensitive skin condition, yet data on parental awareness and preventive practices in India remain limited. This study aimed to assess parents' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding AD in children under five years of age.

Methods: A cross-sectional, nationwide online survey was conducted among 1,003 Indian parents, selected from a pool of 3,012 respondents to ensure regional representation.

The association between maladaptive daydreaming and eating and obsessive-compulsive disorders in the general population: the mediating role of alexithymia.

Maladaptive daydreaming (MD) is a recently defined clinical condition characterized by an excessively immersive utilization of fantasy and imagination which can significantly impact both professional and social life. International literature has linked MD to obsessive-compulsive symptoms, but its association with alexithymia remains largely unexplored, and its connection to eating disorder symptoms is even more neglected. As a marker of affect regulation difficulties, alexithymia may heighten the risk and severity of MD, eating disorders, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

Background: Evidence has shown that the use of mental health services is less common among Pakistani adolescents and young adults compared to their peers in Western and English-speaking countries, despite a higher prevalence of mental health issues. This disparity suggests the presence of cultural and societal stigma affecting help-seeking behaviors. Our study aims to explore the prevalent forms of mental health causal attributions and help-seeking care recommendations in this population.
